If I use the online check in does anyone have any suggestions on a best seat to chose if there is such a thing.

I am travelling on my own

There are a number of websites that give info on the "best" seats on various airlines. Airline Seating Charts, Best Airplane Seats - SeatGuru is probably the most "famous".

Just so you are aware how the process works. Qantas automatically allocate people to seats before on line check in opens. All the frequent fliers with high status will be allocated before those with no status.

As OLCI opens 24 hours before take off - a lot of people jump on immdiately to get the "best" seat that they can - but a lot of those best seats might have already gone.

You can keep checking back during the 24 hours in advance of the flight in case someone in a best seat cancels and their seat become available.

Hope that helps.

I can guess why they don't, but it would make life so much easier if Qantas OLCI would show when the system has "hard blocked" the seat next to you. (My opinion is - the best seat is the one with no-one next to you.)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If seatcounter indicates a "lightly loaded flight" (O/N/Q 9's) then look for a row of 3 seats toward the rear with either the window or aisle taken with the other two seats free.

If the window is taken then take the aisle, if the aisle then take the window. People are far less likely to select a middle seat down the back with each seat beside it taken.

sometimes just walking up on the day gets some pretty good seating as well - yesterday I changed my later SYD / MEL to the 1715 (451) and got allocated 6C with the B vacant. At the front with arm room - can't ask for better that that!

As for the best seating - as mentioned already, one without someone next to you is the best seat on the plane outside of F or J excluding being seated between two playboy models... ;)

Mr!

I have generally found little selection choices available using OLCI. My preference is to take the most forward aisle seat available (and its nearly always been the one I have already been allocated) and ask for either an exit seat or ODU at the lounge.

OLCI doesn't always give the best seat.

We used the seamless transfer at SYD (LAX-SYD then SYD-PER). SYD-PER was on a 737-800 and we were somehow got 4D and 4E (extra legroom, since first row of economy).

Maybe QF preallocated us those seats because we are both WP and transferring from QF12 in First Class.

Agree re:OLCI - it's almost a waste of time. I follow the same as NM - check in as far foreward, then ask for Exit row / move foreward at QP/Customer service.

I was shown a real advantage of OLCI the other night in DRW when I rolled up at midnight to a full terminal. The baggage drop line was empty so went straight to the front of the line, dropped bags then off to the QP.

Worked for me :!:
