This still seems to happen on the trans-Tasman flights - but alcohol is free for Y pax there anyway. It was a good benefit on the longer domestic Y flights I agree, but I haven't received for quite some time (though have had the $6 charge waived for me a couple of times when I have gone to purchase a wine with lunch.)
