I've been looking through information that relates to Classic Award flights that gain status credits through Qantas Points Club. My question is, 'Do those status credit gaining flights also contribute towards the minimum 4 sectors flown in order to achieve or retain Gold status?' I haven't been able to find the answer. Can anyone clarify it, please?

You are on a flight, so a sector flown.

@obihirogriff , squiggles or “~” are the minimum sectors you mentioned
Do squiggles “~”, the annotation still exist?

They don’t display anymore and tbh, I think they stop showing them before Covid. Looking at my flights for the year, there’s no distinguishing marks or features to differentiate the eligible sectors from non. Other than a QF flight # v say a BA.

Non-PC members should still see QF flight award activity with zero points/SCs. Whereas i see the SCs but nothing to confirm they‘re a qualifying sector. Other than noting if my 4 red plane counter incremented.

Bumping this thread.

Do JQ Starter fares earn the old ~? Or in QF T&Cs speak from para 20.1.5, are they an Eligible Flight Segment?

The question arises as being based overseas a family member will have sufficient SCs to retain gold, but may not have the four Eligible Flight Segments. (and note that this is a different term to the defined ‘Eligible Flight’)

I know that Starter fares don’t earn points or SCs, so don’t want to conflate earning those with solely ticking off the requirement for the four flights where you hand cash to the QF group. (which is the reason why the four flight requirement exists… they don’t want people retaining QF status doing all their flying o/s and paying IB, or AA, or CX for all the tickets)

In this specific case a return JQ Starter fare flight will hopefully be all that is needed to tick off the last two segments to retain.

Have you added your QFF # to the JQ booking? I also have a starter fare itinerary booked where I managed to add my number with the JQ web assistant and am holding out hope that it will count towards my 4 flights. JQ make it difficult to add your QFF # to bookings which won't earn points or SCs.

I think it is ambiguous, however, whether starter fares are supposed to count towards the 4 ~ flights.

20.1.5 says that the flights must be "Eligible Flights" on QF/JQ/3K etc, ok sure. It also says Classic Award Flights "do not count," but as @sudoer mentioned, they do if you have PC+.

9.3.1 says:
Qantas Points for air travel may be earned only for paid travel or Points Plus Pay - Flights (excluding for the avoidance of doubt any Classic Flight Rewards) on regular scheduled flights where the Qantas flight number or the flight number of the applicable oneworld Member Airline or Airline Partner is shown on the Itinerary ('Eligible Flight').
But now I'm not sure what "('Eligible Flight')" is referring to! Is "paid travel or Point Plus Pay," a prerequisite for an Eligible Flight, or just that the flight is a "regularly scheduled" one with a QF/OW/Partner flight number?

JQ Starter fares don't earn points or SCs, but they aren't explicitly excluded in the T&Cs.

Don't get me started on the fact that Eligible Flight Segment isn't even defined!

Someone please tell me I'm stupid and there's an obivious answer so I can delete this post.

@sqrt() this is exactly the problem.
So, the question still stands, does a JQ starter fare flight (no bundle) count as one of the four flight segments required for status?

Probably more important than the gobbledygook in the T&Cs is the empirical evidence: does a status run on the cheapest JQ flight (starter fare) count for the four flights requirement?

They don't count, because if you don't have a bundle, they don't even ask for your FF on booking (with JQ).

Booking on QF, there's a GDS tax that's more than the bundle, so probably a moot point.

I agree with justinbrett - iirc the statrter fares don't earn QF SC's and as such wouldn't be eligible (and as such no option to put in one's QF#). iirc don't you need a bundle that includes SC earn (max?). In that case they would count.

Bundles can be either Starter Plus (discount Y - ie 10 SCs for short legs) or Starter Max (flex Y - ie 20 SCs for short legs).

They definitely count if you get the bundles.
