Can anyone help?
I was going to use my points for eco budget Jetstar airfares x 3 RTN totalling $4000AUD which = 704,000 QFF POINTS
yet, Qantas flights calculator estimates 151,400 for the same x 3 eco fares.

Has this been the case, using Jetstar your QP wont Get the best value for your points?

You need to be looking for Classic Flight Rewards, not points plus pay...

In other words, turn OFF 'use points' and then filter by classic rewards.

Like MELso says......you need to look for reward seats not points plus pay seats. Reward seats on Jetstar flights incur a lower points redemption than most comparable reward seats with other airlines on the same route hence can be good value.

To be very clear, Qantas provides two ways of using points to book a flight. There is points plus pay where the cash fare price is converted into an equivalent amount of points. The benefit with this scheme is you can book any flight whenever you want. The downside to this scheme is that Qantas places a relatively low value on each Qantas point (i.e. 1 cent per point possibly less). The second scheme is called Classic Flight Awards. The benefit there (as you saw) is it's a fixed number of points required based on the distance of the flight which can often offer outsized value (i.e. Sydney to Lord Howe Island is one that comes to mind). The downside with this program is Qantas and partners only release a handful of award seats per flight meaning you gotta get in there and book early if you want to snag a deal.

Searching for awards on the Qantas site normally which show you this grid:

As you can see Red e-Deal, Flex and Business are available to book using Points + Pay (albeit at a high cost). On the right, you'll see the Economy and Business classic awards which are presently showing no seats available for these flights. If you click on the button that says Reward Seats in the filter section of that page you are presented with just Classic Award availability on that date:

As you can see the pickings are slim, but they are considerably cheaper than the Points+Pay option (i.e. 14,400 points on JetStar for Sydney to Cairns versus 27,942 points using Points+Pay for a similar non-stop JetStar flight). One benefit of Classic Flight Awards is the penalty for making changes/cancellations are also considerably less (i.e. 5,000 points/passenger to change or 6,000 points/passenger to cancel). In addition, if you are travelling on JetStar specifically, all classic awards include a free checked bag.

Hope that provides some insight into what you are seeing.
