Hi all - which would you choose??
Budget allows a spend of around AU$5,500. For this I can fly Qantas Premium Economy MEL-LHR return, or a combo fare flying economy to Singapore or Hong Kong and then Air France or possibly Swiss International Business Class via CDG or ZRH then to LHR - and same return - with stopovers in Asia in each direction.

Seat comfort with possibility of getting some sleep would be nice, reasonable food and IFE are also a bit of a necessity in case of no sleep!!:) I look forward to your well-travelled advice. Cheers!

Personally, i'd go the QF Y+ option as AF/LX Business on the long haul isn't really enticing enough to get me to put up with Cattle from AU-Asia, at least with Y+ you've got consistency and don't have to deal with going back from J to Y on the last leg, never a nice feeling.

There's also a chance you'll get an OP-UP if for some reason the plane being used on your day lacks Y+

The extra SC's and FF Pts flying QF Y+ is a definate advantage too.

Just don't make the mistake of booking BA Y+, it's nowhere near the same as the QF Y+ product.

Thanks for that TravelGuru - I had actually wondered about BA WTP so now I know Qantas is better! And I too was a bit so-so on the Y leg home after a great 4 weeks away.

However - there was that great special recently where if you travelled in WTP on BA they upgraded you to Club World in one direction of your trip. From memory it was for travel between about August and October (the ads started in May or June I think??). What did you think of that fare? Do you know if they're likely to run with it again?

I agree with TG. However, if BA had one of their one-way upgrade deals going I would consider using them for WT+ in one direction and CW in the other.
