hi thought i would ask other peoples oponion on the new premium economy class for Qantas. A good friend flew back on Saturday from Bangkok in PE and she said it was terrible, seats do not recline very far, food was average and service not up to scratch. I was of the oponion that PE was to be Business seats and economy meals and service. Has anyone else travelled PE and what is their thoughts?

I quite liked PE.

The seats are PE specific seats, better than economy, but they are not business class seats. I had no issues with the recline on them.

Meals are a cut above economy but not business class meals, and the wine list seems to be the business wine list.

I think that's probably the first bad report of PE on QF that I've read. What were your friends expectations?

Nothing like business class seats, actually - they are regular recliners with more leg room, rather than lie-flat beds. Food and beverage service ought to be of a standard approaching business class.

I suspect anyone who flies with QF/NZ etc in Y+.. expecting "Business seats" will be disappointed!!!

Can't speak for the QF seats... but I DO like NZ's Y+ product (on the 744 at least)... for what it IS! A Premium Economy product....

QF PE is like domestic business class.

I flew it Late NJight MEL-HKG on Friday. Here's a small post I did on it:

... As for Y+ seats; they are certainly better for me than Y in respect to sleeping. Being wider I can twist onto my side and sleep in a semi-foetal position. The meals were larger and greater selection + N/C headphone. The foot rest is no use to me as I am too tall to be comfortable using it.

Would I use points/$$$ to upgrade out of an exit row seat for it? No!

I have heard good reviews on it especially given the price point.

Also, I have yet to hear of an unsuccessful points upgrade request into Premium Economy!

I have done MEL-SIN and MEL-HKG-MEL in QF Y+

I concur with serfty's views of it being similar to domestic J (as well as not wasting points to UG from an exit row seat).

A pretty good improvement over standard Y, but still a fair way off international J (on QF - have not sampled long haul J on any other carrier)

The "oldest" International C seats I've flown in were on a TG 744 BKK-HKG and the FJ 744 LAX-NAN...

Big old cradle seats... 50-55" pitch. I think those two are pretty much at the bottom of the quality range as far as "current C" goes...

..and as much as I agree about the improvement over Y, I'd MUCH rather travel in either of those than in Y+!!!!!
