I was just changing my flexi saver fare and noticed that all Qantas flights SYD-MEL have increased by $1.

However when I confirmed I was prompt to the payment page (to pay the fare difference) and was asked to pay $0.02.

Why not $1?

Qantas has been tinkering with their airfares recently.

I know that on 01 July 2012 airfares will increase again to take into consideration "forced" carbon offset charges. :(

Why? Because they round up the price that is initially displayed, but then charge the amount down to the cent. I've seen this a fair bit and it has nothing to do with tinkering with airfares, IMO
