Hi,
I'm a new member, however have lurked the AustFF website for a while now, and have found it really helpful/useful/amusing.

I've only recently started flying a bit for my work, and have only made PS status, and nearly have made enough to retain it for my current membership year so far (30 SC to go, and it's only 2 months in, although I dont forsee I'll be flying that much next year to get to SG, but you never know).
As little benefit that PS gives, I'm looking to do some personal travel in the new year, and I'm looking forward to beat the normal Pax queue, and hit up the J class queue (I'm actually flying OW partner airline JAL, but I think OW Ruby status allows me to do this with OW partners).
Anyway, I'll be travelling with my wife, who does not fly much other than for personal trips, and therefore is still NB. If I go to check in the J class line, can I bring my wife with me, as I have status to? If not, well, I guess I'll line up the way I usually do (because sending my wife to check in the normal line separate to me would be signing my own death warrant!).
We are booked on the same ticket.... if that helps in the answer.

Thanks, and I look forward to your response!

It's not AFAIK an officially published benefit but I certainly make use of it travelling with my family. I haven't flown JAL specifically but have never been turned away from any of the OW airline premium check-ins.
And welcome to AFF :)

As a PS you are oneworld Ruby.

My oneworld tier status - oneworld

"Priority Business Class check-in" is the most tangible benifiy of Ruby.

As noted by the princess it's generally quite ok for accompanying PAX to check in with the statused member.

Welcome to AFF poccari!

I've never had an issue checking in with NB people that I was travelling with, in the appropriate piority queue, when I was QP and QPPS. I'd be amazed (and dismayed) if you had any issues.

Thank you for all your responses and welcomes.
I thought that would be the case, and I look forward to using it!

Hi everyone,

Poccari, I hope you don't mind me hi-jacking your thread, but I have a couple of PS questions in the same vein.

I'm currently a LNB (I've added the "L" because NB usually seems to be prefixed with "lowly"! :D) but will be a PS after a flight this weekend. I've never before had/chased status... didn't even know that it existed! I don't fly for work, just for leisure, and have been fortunate enough to have had a couple of decent trips this year to get me to (upcoming) PS status for the first time. I stumbled across this forum by accident and have been avidly poring over it since... It's incredible the wealth of combined knowledge you all have, and I'm amazed at your generosity in willingness to share this knowledge! Thanks!

Anyway, to my PS questions. (Apologies if they are silly)...
(1) Can the one-off QP guest pass included in the PS package be used in an overseas lounge? (namely in BKK?)? And if so, is it only for the recipient, or can I use it to guest in a mate (who will be a pax on the same QF flight)
(2) Will I be able to use advance seat selection for flights I have already booked for next year? If so, am I also able to select a seat in advance for the above (non-status) friend, if he has already booked his ticket and we are not on the same PNR? It'd be perfect if we could sit together, but we will only be travelling one leg (BKK-LHR) together from a 4-city trip.

Your advice is much appreciated!!

Yes you you can use it in any Qantas Club, including overseas - but you won't be able to bring a guest in.

Seat selection on existing bookings should work but if not just call Qantas. You won't be able to select a seat for your mate - best thing is to pick your own seat where there's an empty one next to it and then get him to pay for his own seat selection.
