Just got off the DFW-SFO flight in F. One of the flight attendants has a boyfriend in Aus with Aus connections. She told me that Qantas helped financially with some of the renovations to the Admirals Club at LAX and DFW - any truth to this?

Judging by it sound like a "my boyfriends proctologist girlfriends brothers aunts gardners gynaecologist surveyors pilots friend said" probably not.

granted, no way to check the source, but I started thinking, perhaps makes some sense if Qantas diverted funds to help upgrade AA lounges instead of Oneworld advertising, or some similar type of arrangement, just interesting to know, being an alliance there could be some trade offs going on, or perhaps I should occupy my time looking for a cheaper fare to get the last 300 SCs to become platinum while I am here in the US

The LAX Admirals Club is a joint lounge AFAIK. Which is why it is part staffed by QF and has extra food in the evening prior to QF26/16.

I imagine similar in DFW but not 100% on the DFW lounge arrangements (ask me again in a few weeks).

Now I get what she meant (light bulb over the head moment) she was probably talking about the joint LAX lounge and the effort Qantas puts towards it which saved AA having to go alone.

Qantas did indeed put a fair amount of moolah into the renovations of the LAX F/L and A/C.

Credible sources indicate that if not for QF's input there would be no F/L at LAX.

This happened around 2003-2004 IIRC. Back then SYD, JFK and most MEL flights departed T4.

At DFW, Qantas have a contact lounge open from 6pm until departure of QF8. AA has 4 A/C at DFW, on in each of A, B, C & D.

thanks serfty, once again a fountain of knowledge, on the flight DFW-SFO in the first cabin it was evident to me that some of the flight attendants had a genuine appreciation of the qantas brand, for this particular reason, that you mentioned above.

Also, as serfty mentioned, there are multiple AA lounges at some US airports, usually one per terminal in the larger hubs and none at all at some airports such as BWI. In general, the AA lounge that has the children's room, I find, is usually the largest and the best, this is true at DFW. I think that if you have over an hour to spend at such airports, look for the AA lounge that has the children's room, and use the skytrain for connection to your terminal if it is near the lounge with the children's room.

It will only add about 10 minutes extra to move from one terminal to another, I think that MIA is the same. The AA lounge at SFO is a lot smaller, and hence no children's room, the one at LAX is much larger (terminal 4) and has a children's room, seems to be the pattern, children's room = best AA lounge at the airport.
