Qantas is adopting a more compassionate approach, giving grieving family members up to 12 months to transfer Qantas Points to their own account before the slate is wiped clean.
"Virgin Australia’s website states: “If the deceased member has left instructions for their Points balance to be transferred to a beneficiary, we’ll let you know the next steps to complete this. "
Really, so now you have to factor this in !! I guess if not indicated in the will, no transfer of points.
Handy for the next generation to receive a heap of QFF points that couldn't be used in a meaningful manner, by the original owner , so the point usage can be pondered by the benificiary.

Qantas will scrap a “grossly unfair” rule preventing grieving relatives from reclaiming their late loved one’s loyalty program points.

The embattled airline confirmed it will from October correct the controversial policy, which automatically wiped a Frequent Flyer’s points if they passed away.

Under the revamped Frequent Flyer policy, family members of the deceased Qantas members will have 12 months to request the points be transferred to their accounts.

Qantas said the rule was one of many now under review by Ms Hudson.

Points expert Steve Hui, founder of iFLYflat, said changes to the “outdated policy” has been long awaited and customers should never have had their “hard-earned balance wiped”.

“While these terms were set out in their rules, most people had no clue it existed and only found out once their loved one had died, which is the worst time possible,” Mr Hui said.

This is welcome news as I would expect to die with a 7 figure balance but I do wonder whether I have any family members who would know what to do with the points. I would confidently expect them to expire and would be quite impressed if they were converted into gift cards (which would probably expire before they were spent). I definitely couldn't see any of my family piecing together a OWA.

By the way, I wish someone would tell Qantas that we do not pass, we die.

I don't intend to do either :p ... so far so good :)

But as a backup plan, I will ensure Mrs NM knows about the policy. Though she does have instructions of which long-term AFF member to contact in case my plan is thwarted.
 
I have specific instructions for my wife to NEVER tell QF of my passing and then use/transfer all my points.

I hope to be the oldest QFF on QF's database ever!

I'm not sure why anyone would ever tell QF of someone's passing.
 
I hope to have used all mine. 😀 but we don’t know when and we don’t know where.

I am currently in (or approaching) the last decade of my working life and I am trying to accumulate a nest egg of points while churning is still an option - that will hopefully see out my retirement. Just like with a super fund, the ideal is to run out the day before you die - but I imagine the stress of seeing that balance dwindle to nothing would be quite stressful. That's why I hope I die with points left in the bank.
 
So does anyone know whether you have to specifically bequeath the points to someone or if it is enough that points now form an asset that is part of your general estate and are distributed accordingly?

Probably won't know for sure until the updated terms are published. It is said they will be update sometime in October.
