Hi All,

I'm trying to book flights for a NZ holiday. I was please to see the other week that Qantas MEL-AKL one way was $199 on sale but now it's bumped back up again.

Does anyone know if theres any pattern to these fare sales? Do they comearound once a month or...?

I don't want to fly Virgin or Jetstar. So at this stage Air New Zealand looks the best price for both the international and NZ Domestic flights. But was hoping to be compare to Qantas's sale fares :/ I'd prefer to fly QF for the international flights for QC access and of course qff points and sc's. But AirNZ sale fare are mighty tastey!

You also get a better hard product with AirNZ.

These sales are very regular, there is plenty of competition. Given NZ is coming in at AUD60 less than AirNZ I would not be surprised if QF quietly matc soon. Keep your eye out.

If you had to book on QF today, I would book one way MEL-AKL for $233 and use the NZ QF site to book AKL-MEL for NZD190 (~AUD155).

I am travelling to NZ monthly at the moment, I book AKL-MEL-AKL for NZD427 (~AUD350).

The above are non sale prices. AirNZ prices ex AKL are the same.

+1 with AirNZ's actual product. It's TT product right now is far better than QF's. I know it's sometimes hard to fly without earning points \ sc's. On the other hand QF have really treated me well since I flew with AirNZ and made sure they knew about it which has more than made up for the lack of points on a one way TT flight...

Of course, you also get Airpoints Status of 60 points per round trip even if you do not earn Airpoints $. Eight round trips ( or 15 one way) is enough for Silver status and pre-allocation access to Space+ seating (35" pitch).

Are those figures right? You get 60 return (from one trip..) but only need 8? That doesn't seem right..?

Hmm thanks for the advice. I check the sale site pretty regularly. I signed up for red e-deal news but I seem to never get any notices about sales through email.

I suppose since I pay for QC access, I would like to use it on my holiday. But given how much cheaper AirNZ is, I may just have to miss the lounge :P

I wouldnt be flying AirNZ enough to worry about airpoints or status.
