Has anyone noticed the strange sale prices over the past couple of days on the Qantas site? Perhaps they are in between sales at the moment. But it is appearing to cost more to travel to Dallas than it is to fly to London. And the same price for LA and London.
It's almost like the prices from several years ago when there was no competition on the Pacific route.
With AirNZ and Delta offering $1000 to California, I doubt Qantas will keep the US prices so high for too much longer... I will they?

Yes Qantas pricing over the last week has been bizzare

QF: MEL/SYD/BNE - LAX - Y+ over $4500 return

VA: MEL/SYD/BNE - LAX - Y+ $2300 return

QF: MEL/SYD/BNE - LAX - J over $8000 return

VA: MEL/SYD/BNE - LAX - J over $4500-$5000 return

I have booked 8 pax + 1 infant in J and notwithstanding that 4/8 pax are WPs guess which airline I booked in?

VA - I am fed up with Qantas pricing in a competitive market.

Totally agree.

I'm probably looking to book a SYD-LAX-ORD return for mid-April and I ideally would fly J in the A380 with Qantas, but $9,200 does seem unjustifiably high when VA SYD-LAX return in J is $4,500 (SYD-ORD is $7,500) and SYD-ORD return with UA is $6,500 (even if their J product has not received the best reviews).

I don't mind paying a bit more with Qantas, as I still think their J product in the A380 is slightly superior to many other carriers, but nearly $3k? Not sure I can justify that.

Do you think Qantas' cross Pacific prices will come down in the next month or so, or are they really that arrogant in thinking their offering is worth so much more than anyone else?

I too observed that for the first time in what seems like forever, there appear to be no sale fares to anywhere on the QF network. I completely agree that it seem incredulous that QF believe they can justify $2600 return to SFO in April when it was $1600 last week. I suspect that someone has stuffed up royally and forgotten to load the new sale fares...or QF is testing the market to see if it will bear these new prices. I certainly won't. And I imagine there will be very few people who will ever again justify paying anything over $2k to fly to the US...

$2800 to JFK?

Ridiculous!

Surely this must be a mistake.

Just did a dummy booking and something screwy is happening here.

This is from the International Sale fares page

This is what you get if you make a booking. Cheap fares are still there apparently.

I got an email from Qantas about a "global roaming sale" last night? The fares to the US are a bit steep ($1388 to LAX) but the fares to Europe seem like a bargain - $1804 to LHR and $1730 to FRA. Doing a few dummy bookings I can see it is actually possible to book a ticket for a little bit less than this.

I dont think their prices are too bad. I was looking at flying VA but QF have dropped their price for my dates by $1000 as of today. Thats a lot of shopping money in the US :D

I too am looking to book Melb - LHR but i paid $1081.00 two years ago and got an upgrade to business $1800 approx does look expensive lets hope it does come down soon. happy to go ecomony and do a points upgrade again

The $1800 fare is return. Was your $1081 also return or oneway?

Depends what class it books into as well. I like the cheapest full Y. I get double the status credits, half points to UG, than every other DISCOUNT ECONOMY FARE. Changes and refunds are better, the status higher when the op up fairy flys by occasionally.

To get these you often have to ring up the Travel Centre. 131211.

There is a service fee as well.
