Hi,

I've been a long time beneficiary of some great advice on this website but now I need some very specific help.

Work has temporarily relocated me to London. Thanks to flying between a few European cities on BA I have gathered enough SC's to retain Gold this year but haven't flown a single Qantas segment and I won't be heading home before the end of my year.

I've noticed that some of my BA flights code share with Qantas. Is there a way to book the Qantas European segments without connecting through to Asia? Does anyone have any advice on how I can get 4 Qantas segments for the minimum cost and time commitment?

If I do have to go through Asia, one piece of advice I received (from someone who is usually in the know about these things) was to fly LHR-FRA-SIN-FRA-LHR but I can't even seem to do that online.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

No you can't book the QF flight numbers if you are not connecting onto QF flight number long haul. These flights are for international online connecting or stopover traffic only

I am not sure that this would help, I think you have to fly 4 segments on QF or JQ metal. You could get to SIN and fly Jetstar Asia somewhere else to get the additional segments

Hi mp6283, welcome to AFF! :)

Basically, a trip to Asia is probably your only legitimate way to get the QF segments you need. I haven't spent any time on the QF website to see if it will price up LHR-FRA-SIN and vv., but I can certainly get Expedia UK to quote me. Here's a sample itinerary:

10AUG LHR-FRA QF3487
10AUG FRA-SIN QF6
18AUG SIN-FRA QF5
19AUG FRA-LHR QF3480

[-]ISTR that the SYD-SIN-FRA flights are not daily, so you may need to be somewhat flexible in what days you travel.[/-] (they are daily, please ignore ;) ) Also, the return flight has a huge layover (but probably worth it in the end).

If you can find a good local travel agent, they may be able to quote similar / better options.

You'll be pleased to know that it's any flight that earns points where QF or JQ/3K/etc is the marketing carrier:

QFF T&C's said:
20.1.5 The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold or Platinum status level must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where Qantas, QantasLink or a Jetstar Airline is the Marketing Carrier.

Cool, good news for the OP (if he has to go to SIN anyway)

Air Asia X to KUL then 4 JQAsia segments then AAX back to STN. Not sure if that's any cheaper than the example listed (LHR-FRA-SINvv).

LHR-FRA-SIN return is a lot easier to coordinate though. It can easily be done over a weekend, with time to spare.
