Hi Guys & Gals,

Just wondering if you can give me some recommendations on the best special meal you have come across on QF DOM flights in Y. I have personally tried the kosher meals and can say they are more generous than the standard Y offering but a bit repetitive. Would like to hear your recommendation on best Y special meal.

Cheers.

I always just ask for the "Fruit Platter", however yesterday Brisbane -> Melbourne (Evening) they served a Spaghetti dish which was quite good!

Hey Gatty,

Have had the food platter on lunch services any idea if its different for dinner/breakfast?

Diabetic can have some variety, although now it's become quite repetitive, especially the raspberry or banana muffin, which is loaded with fat.

It's a pity they stopped the low-fat special meal. I liked those.

I go the fruit platter for the morning flights.. Not a fan of cereal and it hits the spot. I usually remove the special request for the evening return flight!

Atleast with the fruit platter you know what you're getting time and time again.

I usually fly Mel-Syd in J as my employer pays, however i went up for a weekend for leisure and flew economy and was shocked you now pay for a Beer in Economy? No Alcohol at all?

Last time i flew Economy Domestic was Mel-BNE about 2 years ago and i remember having complimentary beers on board then.

When has this change occurred?

On the routes mentioned, Beer and wine is complimentary on weekdays after 4 pm. It has been that way for at least a few years.

Yes, prior to the early to mid-2000s, no free alcohol was provided in Y at all. The provision of free alcohol on Cityflyer flights (Mon-Fri after 4pm) was a Qantas initiative to keep the corporate market happy.

had theGluten Free for lunch last week on'QF Y.
GF Bread filled with antipasta............eggplant, semi-dried tomatoes etc. quite eadible. GF Bread was iffy, but then again it always is.
just had the GF Meals on MH J. iffy too. eadible but iffy. lots of skewers of eggplant/capsicum / tofu and mushrooms. hate to think what the vegetarians got, no, am sure we got the same.

hate to think what the vegetarians got

It's generally awful. I make a point of not eating on the plane if I'm flying QF, including long haul -- I'll grab something at the lounge and then get something to go to tide me over if it's a long flight.

I eat the Fruit Platter, as the its most consistent meal on offer.

I'm a Vegetarian who has recently started eating a Gluten Free diet (for health reasons not medical) and so find the fruit the best option.

The Vegetarian meal is hit and miss at the best of times.

Mrs G'Feeder is a coeliac and enjoyed her GF lunch and dinner on QF Y last time she was able to accompany me. Her previous experience was in B767 J and she was astounded at the great service and meal quality ... but we haven't been to J for a while now:(
