Qantas Status credits

As a newbie, I would like some advice. About to take business class (paid) Syd-Lax-Syd, and will of course aquire some credits. When attaining silver what is the strategy to keep this?
Also what is the position using points and pay to accumulate credits. Is it only on "anyseat rewards"?

Strategy to keep silver - fly. Not intending to be brusque but the only way to maintain status is to fly. Firstly look at where you need/want to fly in the next status earning year. Try and gauge what that would earn you in terms of SCs and then work out how much more you need to retain status. Retaining silver is not a great benefit though and personally I wouldn't be spending money to retain silver. I would divert that money to paying for QP membership which has in my opinion better benefits.

SCs are only earned on paid flights and ASAs.

SC' s accumulate. So not only should you fly. But fly a minimum of two return flights PA. If you are flying j or better (regularly) you will accumulate life time status a lot more quickly. ......something I should have paid attention to many years ago!,
In any event the lounge access is a life saver sometimes so as suggested earlier , maybe a QP membership is the go.
Otherwise always fly J or better.

Paid J-Class SYD-LAX-SYD will earn 360 SCs

To boost earnings, if you are going anywhere in the US, fly with AA, and ideally use YUP/KUP fares, which are instant upgrade fares to First that are often very reasonable in price.

I totally concur with the first part - fly! But if you only do a little travel where Silver is the Holy Grail, then I can understand the importance. I consider the only worthwhile facet of Silver is the ability for seat selection. That can be worth a hell of a lot if you fly Y. Been a while since I was silver and cannot claim to be abreast of the details there. But in any case, WELCOME!

The other thing to note is that you need a minimum of 4 QF flights a year to earn or retain any membership level. So with two flights SYD-LAX & LAX-SYD you might have the SC for Silver status, but if you haven’t flown 4 flights total in that year, you wont be a Silver member.

As someone else mentioned. If you don't travel much, Silver is the Holy Grail. Especially for the check-in advantage. Sure, you won't have the benefits of the Gold / Platinum guys with free lounge access but it's still a good thing.

Again, as mentioned above, I wouldn't spend money chasing Silver [some people spend money doing 'points runs' to retain Gold or Silver]. You'd be better to just spend the money on the QP [QANTAS Club] membership.

I scraped in Silver my first 2 years of QFF membership. Some of the benefits I found useful

- Business class check-in
- Seat selection (more important now one has to pay for it on international flights)
- 25% status bonus (isn't it 50% now)
- Upgrade to business class both legs of SYD-BKK return
- I know the goalposts have since changed but received an Upgrade Credit out of it as well
- And a complimentary Qantas Club pass (got 2 visits out of one them as there was no one to collect it in BNE)
