Howdy

Seeing how few threads are found on this topic, I very much doubt its possible, but in the unlikely event that Qantas will status match, who do I ask about it?

I've racked up about 100,000 miles on Singapore (and *A) in 2009 but due to a change in company policy, I'm going to have to start flying one world more. Ideally Qantas will match my *gold with their gold tier, but I would settle for silver.

Any suggestions?

jso,

I would start by ringing Qantas Frequent Flyer and seeing if they ever do status matches and then find out from them who is the best contact to pursue the matter with.

Having a QF FF account would be a good start.

I also would not be too disappointed if they say no.

I'd also suggest have at hand a list of proposed trips / be prepared to book some trips immediately.

I wouldn't mention this when discussing with Qantas. If they know you have to change anyway they would be less motivated to make it worthwhile.

Maybe imply you are considering a change, what can QFF do to assist?

I'd guess that QF will say no. If you have enough trips to go up in levels anyway they will simply say so, and if your not going to do enough trips to go up a level then your not really worth anything to QF outside of a seat from time to time. They may also simply get you to purchase QP membership which gives you some of the benefits of gold (Lounge access on QF \ AA \ BA and J checkin) immediately. If they did status match to silver you'd still need to purchase QP to get lounge access anyway.

For an airline to do status matching you'd need to have the power to make company wide decisions on choice of carrier (eg if QF don't status match you then you'd send a multimillion dollar contract to a *A airline) they would probably status match you in that case.

best of luck with that! I highly doubt they will do anything for you after all to them you have spent nothing with them at all why give you free lounge access if you ask for gold that costs them money if you have not put in the miles or the $$$

if your a frequent traveler you will get the status in no time anyways and just buy club membership in the meantime.

If you have the power to send millions of dollars of travel elsewherere I am sure QF would do much more that status match.....

My status match (AA EXP -> QF WP) only came about because they had recently really really upset a newly minted CL member who is in the same buying group as me (the person that books his travel books mine as well).

I have never heard of another status match by QF on these forums - that doesn't mean it doesn't happen - just that I have never seen another reported here.

Which of course begs the questions as to what they did that was so bad?

I would expect it's one of the magic ways to get CL access...

I think they were happy for him to be sat on the tarmac/lounge for 8+ hours due to their delays without trying to reroute him onto another carrier - thus he was late for a Board meeting.

According to tripit there's a way...

Found that quite amusing, although it doesn't know how many more I need to get it

I almost made CL for a BA flight!!!!

My BA boarding pass printed off with my QF number but not my status. In the BA F lounge at LHR T3 I asked the nice lounge lady to see if she could print another boarding pass after digging out my WP card. (It is a pain having to dig out your FF card for boarding and lounge access every time.)

She said it was not likely she could do it but would try. Turns out she was able to re-enter my FF number and then select my status from a drop down menu. She asked me if I was OWE Chairman's Lounge as her finger hovered over the enter button!!!!

I said I wished I was and pointed at the OWE Platinum line!:shock:

Should I have said yes I wonder? ....and if I had would it have made any difference on my journey?
