I thought things might be going in the right direction but a weekend away for my birthday proved otherwise.

Friday: HBA-MEL ... delayed by 6 hours (there goes my tickets to an exhibition, birthday lunch with a friend, move back dinner reservation by 2 hours and give me no free time)

Sunday: MEL-HBA ... delayed by 3 hours... but this time sitting on the tarmac for the whole 3 hours. Apparently they were "waiting on paperwork" and would only be a few more minutes. It got to the point where the passengers just laughed whenever it was said again. Crew went through counting heads and asking names multiple times throughout the 3 hours.

Seems like it was a tough weekend for that route. On Saturday, overheard some people in the MEL J lounge changing their HBA reservations due to considerable delays.

Were these 717 flights?

I've stopped flying QF on the CBR-MEL route because they now exclusively use 717s on that route (as I believe they do for HBA) and they are notoriously unreliable. I've spent many hours in the lounge at MEL waiting for delayed flights to CBR, and then there are the last-minute swaps between the 1-class and 2-class jets which results in downgrades and/or heaps of last-minute seat changes.

A220's can't come soon enough for QF tbh.

I adore the717 don't get me wrong. They are pocket rockets....

but the reliability has just been in the loo for awhile now unfortunately.

none of that should matter to the passenger of course when they book QF.

I'm sorry the weekend was so disrupted by these issues.

Talking about HBA, and this is certainly a flight later in the year but a leisurely Sunday afternoon jaunt to HBA from PER has now.turned into an 8 hour later flight overnight. Thanks Qantas, another cancellation coming and another move to Virgin. Finding really hard to.use Qantas credits and vouchers. I think they are doing it deliberately so we all.just give up. I really to dislike the airline. Worse than Ryanair and easyJet...albeit that's an insult to easyJet who are really actually very good!!

My HBA-PER flight in May changed to HBA-SYD-PER.
They added another stop and an extra 4.5 hours to my journey. Thanks Qantas.

Not sure if Alliance E190s are much better flew to Canberra a few weeks ago first E190 was broken so they pulled up another, hopefully the A220-300 are reliable like a standard A320

While old aircraft are not necessarily unreliable, the QFLink 717 fleet age is around 20 yrs or more. And most/all?of them have been shunted from operator to operator and spent various amounts of time in storage at the VCV airplane desert.

IMO, they are for some reason, likely the most unreliable of the QF/QFLink fleet.

Crew went through counting heads and asking names multiple times throughout the 3 hours.
Interested by this. You mean they were doing this when everyone on board?

They should be a breathe of fresh air. Do very well certainly in Europe.
