No real easy answer to that one, (full economy is not that answer, given PE and even J is often cheaper than most Y fares and often just as flexible), as always it will depend on the departure point fare rules.

True, the question was which economy ticket, but certainly yes, you will get sales that offer PE and J cheaper, but im sure you'd have to check the sale conditions on these.

Assuming that full economy is too expensive I don't think the cheapest of red e-deals are that bad.

I had a SYD-HKG-TPE return recently that I wanted to change the return date. Easily changed and the cost was only the $100 change fee on the cheap sale ticket.

I have similar experiences with many other cheap airfares. In the long run I am definitely in front purchasing the cheaper airfares as changes are not required that often.

I had to do changes twice to the one ticket, $250 each time, so I reckon there has to be a better way. Having said that I purchased the ticket through an agent, mso I had better start getting savvy with online purchases. Cheers

If you need to change that often then it can get very expensive.

I am trying to work out which Qantas airfares come with $250 change fees. Every airfare I have purchased with Qantas has not been more than $100 so I guess in a way I have been lucky.

Red e deals from USA are $200, ironically one of the dearest change fees are for the J Flex ex UK at GBP200.
