Hey everyone!

First time posting here and I would appreciate knowing if anyone else has the same issue I have discovered.
I was wondering if someone could explain to me what Qantas' Tier Status Bonus applies to? From their website the criteria are: Qantas flights.
I am gold so would have expected my Qantas flights to have this boost - but none have it.
Fb support said it was unusual and to contact ff who said it had been applied properly with 0 explanation (very slow replies there).
Has anyone else run into this issue? While I don't fly business (generally), I fly different types of Economy and it has not been applied to any of my Qantas flights... There is nothing on their website (I can find) about this. Is it just an empty offer?

The amount missing would pretty much amount to return Europe-Australia in economy (or one way business)...

Thank you in advance for your replies!

Welcome @Sof

What routes are these?

For what it is worth any status bonus is included in the points earn - there is no breakdown unless you tick "Show Status Bonus points" option..

Moreover, there is a minimum earn of 800 points and if the earn plus status bonus is less than that it will simply post as that 800 points.

e.g. Flights under 750 miles (e.g. MEL-SYD) earn 400 points in discount economy. Add your 75% bonus to that and you get to 700 which is less than 800 so the earn is 800.

Hey Serfty,
Thank you for your reply!
Really! That is really not what they have written there - I was expecting maybe a long unpublished list of terms and conditions excluding most flights or random booking classes may be the reason?
It is mostly LHR-ADL (Through SIN and MEL) but there are a few other domestic (ADL-SYD, ADL-MEL etc which have the 800 points) as well.
How is it calculated? From what their website indicates it is the points *1.75 - I cannot see any other interpretation of it from how they have advertised it...
Where is the table saying 400 points? I have only found ones starting 800 and above. I seem to be looking in the wrong place.

Thank you again,

You should be able to see the breakdown of total and status bonus points on the points activity page on the Qantas website when you log in. Just enable the "Show Status Bonus points" option.

166406

Flights that don't earn the status bonus (eg. non QF flights) won't have the bolded part listed. So that should allow you to confirm whether it's not been applied.

Also remember that if booked in a cabin above economy, the status bonus only applies to the points you'd earn for Flexible Economy.

Hey guys! Thank you so much for your replies! Apologies for my late reply.

I guess the agent I talked to on Facebook got it wrong (who said it had not been applied at all) which is a shame as the Qantas Facebook crew are awesome!

Thank you for explaining it to me :)

It is a little misleading though with the 800 points (which used to be 1,000) not having the bonus added (even for plat) but I am glad it is being added correctly for my international travel at least!

@cwd that does not show up on my site - what browser/computer are you using? I have only checked in chrome and the qantas app (on mac or ios) which hasn't shown that for me (although there are a few features on their website which are broken like their route map apparently for anything but ie)

Vaguely related, having followed the link from a QF email reminding me of my OW Sapphire benefits, I got to the standard QF Gold FF benefits.

The Gold headline says "while Gold members receive 75% more points". Now if I earn 100pts for my flight in J, and I earn 75% more points, I should end up with 175pts. But then indirectly they make mention of the bonus points earn rates table and that indicates that I only earn at Flex Y rates, which means I do not earn 75% more points.

This seems to be just down right misleading advertising. If they say you earn 75% MORE points, then you expect 75% more than you got from the base offer, not 75% of some other rates that's therefore NOT 75% of the earned base points.

How long has this enhancement been going on for? It always used to be 100% bonus meant 1+1=2, now it appears 1+1 may only equal 1.5 (or less)!

Mmmmmm forever? :)
Not Quite.

This cam in with Simpler and Fairer™ Mk 1.

Before that it was indeed 100% of base mailes earn for WP and 75% (had been 50%) for SG irrespective of class.

Not quite. Prior to simpler and fairer the 100% was applied to base earnings, which was flexible economy. A cabin bonus was seperately applied.

When they went to miles in 2001, base earn was 1 point per mile, irrespective of cabin class/fare bucket. Loadings such as status bonus and fare bonus were added to that - if the final number totaled out at less than the minimum earn for the fare class (e.g. Economy at 1000 points) then that minmum earn applied.

With Simpler and Fairer™, this could not work the same way due to there being now being different set rates based on class of travel.

Thanks for the answers. This does all ring bells (except the existence of this table and its consequences), but I always thought my status bonus ended up being the same as my total normal points earned. Perhaps not, and I'm not going looking.

It's only misleading depending on the way you look at it :p

Now, most normal people would think yes it should be 75% bonus of the earnings you would receive for the trip paid for - and that makes perfect sense. ie: if you buy J you should get the earnings a Bronze would get plus 75% (ie: including the cabin bonus)

but that's just it. QF have very carefuly distinguished the class of service and status earnings as "bonuses" on the base earn)... and the base eing defined (nowadays as discussed) as the discount Y bare minimum.

I agree it's a bit of a dodge from the "pub test" point of view, but in the world where QF wants to minimise the earn while making it appear they are being generous, it makes perfect sense. :p

It goes back to the title of this thread - clear as day Qantas says: "Gold members receive 75% more points". Not 75% of something else, but an additional 75% more points than the points I earn with no status.

yeah it's a bit of a marketing bait & switch there....
