From the Australian On line

The fierce rivalry between Qantas and Virgin Australia will take on a new flight path on Tuesday as the airlines stage simultaneous media events in Sydney.
While Qantas is using the lure of a big frequent flyer announcement to make the news, metres away at Sydney International Airport, Virgin Australia is promising a visual spectacle to mark the start of its partnership with United Airlines.
Qantas was keeping the details under tight wraps on Monday but hinted it would be of significant interest to the program’s 13 million members.

New call centre in Jo'burg?

More from the Oz on-line story:

Virgin Australia CEO Jayne Hrdlicka will be joined by cheerleaders, surfers and United’s head of international sales Marcel Fuchs to celebrate the trans-Pacific tie-up.

The departure of the airlines’ first codeshare flight to San Francisco operated by United will cement the marriage which came at the expense of Virgin’s former US partner Delta Air Lines.

As the Virgin event unfolds, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce and Loyalty boss Olivia Wirth will unveil details of a new strategic travel partnership for the frequent flyer program.

The airline already has tie-ups between its frequent flyer scheme and a range of travel partners including Airbnb, Accor, Luxury Escapes and Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions.

Last week Qantas announced frequent flyers would be able to book flights and pay later with financial services company Zip.

VA going strength to strength while QF should just concern itself with getting the basics right, call centre training, not buggering up ppls flights, getting refunds to pax.

Holding a presser about an addition to their FF program same time as VA presser re: a partnership expanding AUS-US travel options.

As Australia's just endured 6 weeks of these sort of shenanigans, aren't people a bit over one mob trying out-PR their opponents? ;)

The Byron Bay based online travel business …

… well, naturally! That’s exactly the market service Qantas would go with 🤣🙄

And when the announcement talks about “booking a holiday experience “ - does that mean using the Cape Town call centre I wonder when the flights get cancelled or the hotels can’t handle it?
