Resurrecting this thread to ask whether the amount of points for a QF CR J upgrade on a particular segment is based on the most restrictive fare type in a mixed saver/flex booking, or the specific fare type booked for a particular segment to be upgraded? Am considering booking such a combination soon to increase chances and reduce the points needed for an upgrade on the return leg of an international itinerary

Well it is a daytime flight

I’ll ponder sussing it out

After all this food I’ll need a snooze

Upgrades can only be requested/applied per segment. The eligibility and amount of points required for an upgrade is calculated based on a segment's fare bucket. The presence of segments having different classes (/buckets) within the same booking has no bearing on the number of points required.

This is indirectly disclosed in the Qantas Frequent Flyer terms, Section 17: "Classic Upgrade Rewards can be requested for a specific flight and date ..."
