Did you get any compensation for the downgrade?
About your upgrade request, there is no email comfirmation. You may check it's in by trying again to request the upgrade via the website, you should only have the option to cancel your upgrade request. Depending on your status with Qantas, you may get a notification of success of failure within a few days from the trip. So at this stage, you just wait, and hope for the best say 24h before the trip.
