Hi All,

Similar questions have been asked in the past, but I am yet to find the definitive answer. Quite soon I am flying CBR - SYD (Qantas Dash 8) then SYD - LAX (Qantas A380) and LAX - SFO (American Airlines). I would like to take my laptop backpack plus an additional bag containing my digital SLR camera as carry-on. The Qantas website at Qantas Baggage | Carry on baggage states that only one carry-on bag is permitted for Dash 8 and international services in Economy. However, I am sure that I have seen people with a similar carry-on configuration to me on previous flights. Do you think that I will get stopped at check-in or the gate?

I am SG, although I don't think that will bear much relevance to the carry-on allowance.

Thanks!

I think it would depend on how busy it is, but on recent flights over Christmas with my family in a Dash-8 we all walked on with at least 2 bags each, there were no issues, but the flight was pretty empty.

The Dash 8 allows two carry on, however technically one will need to be handed over at the gate and tagged "premium hand luggage", the other one which you can take into the cabin with you should not exceed 4kg. Flights can vary with how heavily this is enforced.

The flight which will be most restrictive will be your SYD-LAX flight as you can only take 1 carry on bag (plus a small personal item). From what I've heard (never experienced as never risked it) this is very heavily enforced.

Thanks for your responses. My camera bag is fairly small (around the same size as a handbag) so hopefully that will fall under the "small personal item" on the SYD - LAX flight, as I am not so keen on putting my camera into checked luggage!
