Havnt been to usa for a few years and keen to get back so booking a trip mid 23
obv flight costs gone up alot and looking to see if qantas is any better than they used to be? I always just flew airnz who were great.
Clean planes and modern. Qantas was always last on list.

so ive got following costs

ADL - LAS in premium

qantas 3.7k
airnz 4.6k

Im leaning towards airnz due to past history with filthy qantas planes and poor service. has anything changed?

I tried to find premium on virgin and catn even see it. They used to be ok but cant see them offered now?

any thoughts appreciated from those who have travelled in the past year or so

If you mean Virgin Australia they no longer have widebodies or fly long haul routes post covid/collapse/bain takeover...

You also have DL & AA (from SYD) and UA (from SYD MEL) with AU domestic on their local partners.

Having flown both, I generally prefer NZ due to the better catering and more seat pitch, although I prefer the QF A380's PE due to the side bins and generally more space to walk around in, and a lot more space you can stand and hang around in if you don't want to sit. It's also very quiet being on the top deck.

I last flew AirNZ Premium Econ in 2019 (B787, ICN-AKL) and 2021 (B787, AKL-MEL) and Qantas in 2022 (A380, SYD-SIN).

Personally I'd pick the Qantas option since it's $900 cheaper if it's on the A380, but if they're both 787 i'd pick NZ. Of course, there's always a risk of a Qantas equipment change from A380 to 787.

I assume you mean delta and American Airlines? I find based on previous experiments both are terrible.

I’m leaning toward airnz because they are nicer but the qantas price is appealing.

Have the A380s been upgraded since 2017?

Yeah, it's the same new seat as the 787s now. Personally I'm a fan, but I know some don't like the reduced 38" pitch and the way the footrest is set up.

i dont understand these companies. i just logged onto book a flight and now quants is 6k! the variations from one day to the other are just silly

You may have been caught out as QF has a very quick two day sale that ended yesterday IIRC for flights to the US that did include PE fares. I don't recall the price points though but I'd guess that's what happened.

in this case I guess go with NZ. I generally feel they're a better airline in premium cabins (bar F - which they don't have) for service and catering. I've certainly enjoyed a number of flights on NZ to LAX and IAH.

Yes you are right I just googled
I snooze I lose!
Perhaps it’s for the best anyway
I always flew airnz to usa so looks like it’s going to be again!
Thanks guys
