I think the Qantas website is haunted by a poltergeist…
The strangest thing happened to me today – I’ve been sitting in front of the computer for a few hours planning flights – even got around to booking a few – return business to Auckland for Mr! & Mrs!, a couple of work flights and started even looking at some hotel accommodation then I got a call where I needed to be in Sydney Monday AM and early PM for a meeting. (so much for VIC public holidays...)
MEL / SYD – I dialed up the date and presto! a heap of flights appeared, to which I got a gentleman’s hours 8am to Sydney and chose a fully flexible 4pm home. The fully flexible was the only option except business available, and I usually can’t bring myself to spend my money on a 1 hour business class flight except for a SC run.
All was good – entered the magic gold card number and then waited, and waited, and waited, and waited… I’m sure you get the drift…
Finally – possibly 2 minutes later – I got a response – the E Ticket appeared on screen only to have my 1600 flight bounced backwards to 1400! That’s no good thought Mr! and out came the trusty bat phone and I dialed away.
The Qantas person told me that perhaps there was only 1 seat left in economy and I had missed out – he couldn’t explain the backwards bounce except to say that the next full economy seat was not available until nearly 830pm! Possibly the software looked at the next “available” seat and off it went.
I was a little annoyed to say the least and didn’t feel like sitting around the QC till after 8pm for a flight home (I have since checked and there are no economy seats available on Qantas for a afternoon or evening flight). I ended up paying the difference for a business seat just to get home in a reasonable hour…
Has anyone had the likes happen to them before?
By the way – after making the booking, I usually never check my itinerary – I have now seen the light and will be doing it religiously. Also - anyone else going to be in the SYD QC between 1530 and 1700 Monday?
