QANTAS Airways said today yields, a key measure of profitability, fell sharply in July amid heavy discounting.

The airline said passenger numbers and proportion of seats filled across its fleet in July improved from a year ago.

Passenger numbers rose 4.6 per cent to 3.51 million in July, with its revenue seat factor across its mainline, regional and discount Jetstar carriers increasing by 0.7 points to 82.9 per cent
