Just a quick question RE QantasLink

This week I am going to take my first flight with them, departing SYD T2. On previous flights with Qantas out of SYD T3 to both Melbourne and Adelaide, I have been able to pick up my free paper as I was boarding. (flights were ~8am).

Are there complimentary papers available at boarding for QantasLink services or is this just a 'CityFlyer' thing. (The change in terminals is the thing that has got me the most perplexed)

Cheers

Hi status_seeker, welcome to AFF :D

As posted by markis10, the papers are available in relation to CityFlyer routes.

May you can walk up to a CityFlyer gate between flights and ask for one.

Most (if not all) of the papers in the SYD T2 lounge have the sicker on them saying that they belong in the lounge, unlike the T3 lounge. So you won't have the option of grabbing one as you board at the gate.

If you can just head into the lounge and grab one anyway.

There is of course the local newslink outlet where you can buy one, not a big fan of taking one from the lounge, they have a finite supply.

I don't think there are any CityFlyer services from T2, so to do that you'd need to go across to T3 go through T3 security, find a gate and ask if they mind you taking one, then heading back to T2 and through T2's security. And of course they could turn around and say no because your not on a CityFlyer service.

It's probably just easier to buy a newspaper for the $3 at the newsagents.

Qantas Link have a great service that is not generally known. Their carry on hand luggage allowance is low and the lockers quite small. However, if you have "reasonable size" bag, when you check in, ask if your bag can be put through as "priority hand luggage".

They will look at it, sometimes weigh it, and if acceptable, then tell you to go through to the gate where you embark for the plane, and ask for a "priority hand luggage tag".

Put this onto the bag, then walk out to the plane, and leave the luggage at the bottom of the steps. When you disembark, the luggage is waiting for you at the bottom of the steps! Ditto returning to Sydney

I regularly take a 45" inch roller and have never been refused. Certainly saves time when you have a 2 hour journey to get home.
