Qatar Airways announced today that they will be flying daily to Adelaide from May using their new A350-900.

This comes on the back of Cathay increasing their HKG service to 5 weekly.

International Airlines now directly servicing Adelaide include: Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airline, Emirates Airline, Malaysia Airlines, Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia (Soon to be replaced with Tigerair) & Jet Star.

4 new hotels have opened in the Adelaide CBD in the last 12 months, with 3 more planned, and an airport hotel.

Time for an international one world lounge (Qatar, Cathay, Malaysian)? Qantas Club doesn't exactly cut it

There's room - Next to the Singapore Airlines lounge downstairs (In blue) is two large spaces which are vacant, they were intended to be a Qantas Business Lounge (the longer, larger space) and a Malaysian Airlines Lounge, but they were never fitted out.

Shock & awe. I wasn't expecting QR to be coming to ADL and in the A350-900 but very glad that they are!

Does QF even code share on the EK flights from ADL?

Yes you can get the QF number on the EK flights out of ADL.

This is good, and welcome, news for ADL. I'll start the push right now to have an F/OWE lounge in the international section of the airport before a QF domestic J lounge *ducks for cover*. ADL demands salt and pepper squid!

Anyone know when these flights will be available on rewards? I would expect good availability when the schedule is loaded.

I could already see 4 award seats in J on the route using the Avios engine a couple of days back...

I'm surprised that QR chose ADL instead of OOL - OOL would be a bigger tourist destination and would capture some BNE traffic too.

Has anyone booked this flight? I saw availability a couple weeks ago for mid next year, however, I can't see anything on the BA site anymore. Might need to call AA.

There's good availability from early May 2016 for Qatar flights from ADL to Doha and beyond.

Ditto Emirates via DXB using QF points.

Can't find any seats in May (searching on BA) direct from ADL-DOH. Also nothing in June.

I flew Qatar business class on the new A350 July this year and it was brilliant. 100 x better than EK J IMO.

Maybe that's next when they get more aircraft?
AU-Middle East flights require 2 aircraft to operate daily.

Qatar must be very confident of numbers - no opening specials to a new destination. They have recently had them for USA destinations, so a bit disappointing.
