G'day,

First post, so probably a stretch in asking anyone for a favour, but I have to ask. Travel a bit for work and have made Gold QC. I am taking the family to Los Angeles at the beginning of May.

I have been in contact with Qantas a couple of times about the chances of getting all of us into QC in LA. Over here it doesn't really matter as the wait will be minimal. Apart from having my partner join (would cost arond $400) there is no guarantee that we can all get in, because the kids are aged 8 and 10. All the lady recommended was that I ask. I am sure to do this due to the fact that we will be arriving at the airport at around 6pm, and do not fly out until around 11.20pm. Long wait, and was hoping that we could all have a shower and relax.

I have been watching QC passes on Ebay but they keep getting removed (I guess it does not meet the legal requirements for sale??).

As I said, I know it is a big ask, but if anyone had a couple of passes that they did not require, and can be used by the 18th of May I would be willing to make an offer.

Regards,

Geoff

I hope this is not taken the wrong way but most people do not just give things out to strangers on these forums. Yes there are some members on AFF who are very generous but these are few and far between.

As an example I have 2 complimentary Qantas Club passes that are valid until April 2010 that I will keep to give to someone I know or if the right offer was made I will part with them.

Hi,

I agree 100%. I didn't know if it was against the rules to offer payment for these vouchers so hence I didn't.

I figure that I have next to no chance, but that is the same I would have without asking.

Cheers,

Geoff

Ditto, sorry Geoff. Enjoy your trip.

Geoff1978,

Welcome to AFF.

Unless I'm reading this wrong you have 2 adults and two half growns'. That being the case I would consider your chances reasonably good that you will all get in. This is of course subject to space, a bit of sweet talking and having someone on the desk who is user friendly. The third is probably the hardest :!:

Thats Right. I can get my partner in no dramas as I am Gold FF, but was advised that it is a lottery if the kids can get in. I realise they 'may' have more chance than getting another two adults in, but I wanted to try and make sure that I had everything organised beforehand.

You could always stand at the door and beg as single people enter the lounge ;)

But this can also backfire.

A couple of months ago I was going to the QC lounge in BNE on a Friday afternoon when I saw 3 people standing close to the entrance of the lounge. I sort of guessed what they wanted, one was a Qantas Club member trying to get 2 guests into the lounge, and I was prepared to guest them into the lounge.

Well someone else was in front of me and they asked him first if he was a Qantas Club member and could he guest one of them into the lounge. No problem. So all 4 go up to the desk and the guy that was asked shows his Qantas Club card. I had already shown my boarding pass and was about to head into the business lounge but was just waiting to see the outcome.

The lady asked for his boarding pass. He replied I don't have boarding pass I am flying with Virgin today. And she replied that you can't enter the Qantas lounge unless you are flying QF/JQ on the day. He replied that he didn't know. So they all walked out.

I went outside to find the other 3 people to help them get into the lounge but they had disappeared....

I wouldn't have... there's enough interlopers and kids in there as it is...

Geoff, your best bet is to post when you will be at the airport and see if someone will help you through the door. There are a lot of generous people on this forum and obviously very well travelled. This is your best bet by far.

On another point - a nice lounge dragon? Huh?

Mr!

Yes, i am sure there is lots of us nice people that may be around at the same time you just never know.

Of course a nice lounge dragon :) they do exist, other day QP was full as i walked in and i thought i would try the J lounge (I was just escorting a person taking a JQ flight), i waved my Platinum card and no worries, entry granted with a smile, and they never saw we had any boarding passes, of course i did not have one anyway.

But the best of all was a LAN or Iberia lounge that let me in because i had been tranfered from BA to LH and they were the only lounge in that terminal at LHR.

Yes I know the lounges are overcrowded but there are other things to consider.

I still remember how ~4 years ago a stranger I had never met guested me into the BNE F lounge and I had vowed that if I ever had status I would return the favour to strangers I have never met. That person was Lindsay Wilson and we have met a number of times since then....

I have always planned on using bluff for this situation. First bluff = smile, greet, flash BP and keep walking. Second bluff = ok kids you wait here for mum and dad. My kids are younger so I figure they are lesslikely to call the bad parent bluff. But if they did a crying 4 year old standing at the QC door would soon send a message ;)

I too have guested strangers into lounges, just never domestic. my funniest was a german lass who had struck up conversation with me on the roof bar at changi. she commented about the rich folk who could use the lounges... she had the best collection of outback photos ever...actually, I did guest a stranger into mel once, she was a crew member of sea shepherd, the photographer. again some awesome photos...so im not that nasty, just always unimpressed with as I said the number of interiors in the qp'sMr!

I recently guested a lady I met on the bus fromt he intl terminal to the domestic terminal in SYD into the SYD dom J lounge. I only had a 20 min transfer, but she had 3 hours. She was very grateful.

I think anyone would be grateful, and that those of us who have had status for a long time sometimes take lounge access for granted (yes, even F lounge access for granted) and forget what it was like before we used to be able to head straight to the lounge.
