Hi guys,

I'm travelling with lots if luggage today Syd-Mel, and hoping to score an ODU with points at QC. However I have way too much luggage to carry on.

Can I check in and check my bags on, then go to QC and upgrade? Or do I have to apply for the upgrade before I checkin?

Thanks in advance

The ODUs have to be processed at the lounge; just check in and then go to the lounge and if there is availability, they will upgrade you then

Thanks Dave,

I'm sure I heard a QC check-in attendant tell someone once that they couldn't upgrade because they'd already checked in bags, and the bags would have to be off-loaded and re-checked with a new booking number which they weren't prepared to do... but I must have misheard. Excellent :)

cheers,
Steve

I've done an ODU plenty of times after checking in my luggage.. all they need to do is give you a new boarding pass.

Cheers,

Nick

They can be processed using the quick check machines as well without a visit to the QP, I did this last month in Perth, used the machine about two hours out and it processed fine, meant my bags got the Biz tags as well which you wont get in the lounge scenario.

More likely they couldn't be moved to a different flight rather than simply being denied an ODU. I'd once hoped to get onto an earlier MEL - CBR flight but the J lounge attendant told me that he could have moved me onto the earlier flight had I not checked bags in.

Thanks for the responses everyone,

I went to QuickCheck and not only had the option for "Upgrade with Points" (which I accepted), but was also offered an earlier flight (I had booked a Super Saver ticket).

Am now sipping G+T and staring at the scones and jam and cream at the J lounge :)

cheers,
Steve

Enjoy the flight. I can highly recommend the scones. They're usually nice and fresh (and hot) :)
