Sorry if this is not new but I’ve never seen it before. I’m flying BNE-NTL tonight and noticed this message in the QF app;

As it happens there is only one QF flight to NTL today (it didn’t show JQ options) so no change was actually available. And even if there were I’m on a flex fare.

But if you were on a busier route (eg SYD) on a restricted fare I’m sure this would be a welcome offering. I know this was often available if you asked staff but never seen it proactively offered on the app.

This could be very handy.

This is new and only very recently released.
This is the equivalent version of the kiosks offering the option when at the airport. So there needs to be certain parameters entered in the system for it to be offered.
It would get offered in the same situations like bad weather, oversales etc etc.

Yes, I had it pop up the other day.

The amusing part was that it did not pop up until I had boarded my (originally booked) flight which left just fine anyway, so I was more bemused than excited, but I did note it as a good feature to "fly forward" if/when conditions and timing allow.

It turned out to be a valuable alert, that would have been nice to take up if there was an earlier flight.

Flight cancelled, many roads to the airport are flooded (including one of the runways), and I’m spending an extra night in Brisbane and missing work tomorrow.

I used this last week (Friday) from BNE-SYD - was on a red e-deal fare and was able to get home an hour earlier than planned. Very handy.

Two cancellations and a 4 hour delay so far. Now on a 717 with J that they didn’t sell and too late to upgrade. Empty J cabin on expertflyer - hoping for an OPUP. Or at least to get home.

This will show when viewing earlier flights:

I actually received this offer last Saturday when checking in the day before a Sunday BNE-MEL flight when using a desktop.

There may have been predicted weather issues for SYD. Flight were pretty much sold out and no reasonable seating left, so I declined.

Has anyone had this pop-up when they have connecting international legs? Or just vanilla A->B Domestic
