When I look at my booking there seems to be a change going on. Previously I could select any seat. Now there is an orange banner that says I can pick aisle / window.

Have learnt from Dom bookings that if I try to look closer at my own seat the system loses it! so I skipped to the next screen. Return flight DFW SYD looks same as last week. I am in the j section that some PE bookings have gone into :D.. so don't want to mess with it.

Does anyone know if there has been some change of aircraft??

EF shows QF7 on 25/7 as a 4 class plane (744) sold as 3 class with the usual J seating in F, Y+ in J and Y in Y+ scenario.

So I wonder why the change in my ability to select seats? I looked at this yesterday, & it has changed since then.

Not that I want to change from my J seat with a PE booking, but I keep looking because I know that from time to time the aircraft changes happen & I had nothing better to do! Have had this booking since around january when the PE sales were on, & check it regularly.

A few weeks ago I noticed that on my dom sectors connecting to QF7 I seem to be the only passenger & have wondered about this too. Mentioned this to a couple of people at Ozfest. Why would they fly a plane for me???

Plane substitutions can cause huge problems with pre-allocated seat selections. Keep an eye on your flight, as you may regain the ability to select seats again in a few days. If you plug your Qantas reference and surname into www.checkmytrip.com , does it indicate a seat selected next to your flight?

Being the only person (or one of a few) people having pre-allocated seats on Domestic sectors isn't particularly strange for flights more than a few days out. Not everyone who is able to choose seats on domestic flights chooses their seats early, and also high status passengers (who tend to have the ability to select) don't always book their flights months ahead.

For example, on a Sat flight later in July, only the following seats are allocated on a 737 in economy:
4A-4F / 5A-5F (generally reserved until 72 hours before flight).
6C/6D/13C/14C/19A/19C/19D/20C/25D,

Nowhere near representative of the number of people on that flight!

Checkmytrip still looks like the seats I've had since Jan. So far it's only the QF website that is behaving differently.

I guess those of us who choose or are allocated our domestic seats in advance are a minority, but it's a bit of a shock to see I'm the only one! (makes me feel sort of .. special ...)

QF7 is most unlikely to have an aircraft substitution for a different configuration. It is exclusively operated by 747-400ER and all of QF's -ERs have the same seating config. If it were to be subbed with a non-ER model, then there is definitely going to be a tech stop along the way.

Unless of course they sub it for an A380, but .... most unlikely.
