I am booked on QF176, LAX - BNE on 30 MAY 08.

I booked several months ago and was assigned 26H (A very good seat by the looks of it). Paid for my tickets last week and up until a few days ago still had the seat.

Just checked online, I've been bumped to 64C. I rang up and enquired why - all she sad was they've changed the aircraft. Does this mean they are operating a 3 class 744? I just checked and they're only selling 2 classes.

In either case she's put in a request for an exit row, seen as I originally had such a good seat. I've been moved now to 70B, as she said it was a better seat than 64C. But she's not sure how it will go.

Can anybody shed some light on the subject? And is it worth me putting in a winge to the feedback email to get a better seat?

From the seatmap currently showing on ExpertFlyer, it appears that your plane has been substituted with a 3 class 14 First; 50 Business; 315 Economy 747-400. Seat map is here, although as Y isn't visible (blocked by Qantas), I can't be absolutely sure that's the plane. (There is a similar 747-400 seat map with Premium Economy, but I presume those planes will be busy with PE enabled routes)

70B is one of the 'couple' seats up the back. More room, and only 2 pax side by side, but more turbulence if you are susceptible to feeling it.

This could change before your flight ...

Mal is correct...

QF176 on 30MAY08 is being operated by a 3-class 747-400 (14F/50J/315Y).

Zone A is the giveaway here...

It's definitely not a Premium Economy equipped 747-400.

So yes, the QF agent was correct in informing you of an aircraft change.

Cheers,

I wrote a complaint to Qantas, and now I see I've been moved to row 29B.

I'm a little unsure - row 29 doesn't exist in the aircraft config you listed. Assuming they haven't changed back (and why would they put me in a middle seat?) - I may have just scored myself a free upgrade to busiess class!

I'll wait until I get my boarding pass, but I can't see any other explaination.

Maybe they stuck you in a middle seat as punishment for being difficult :)

Seatmap on Expertflyer's remained the same.

Unless it is the B bulkhead seat on a 2 class (for being difficult :) ), the only other map that I can see which would fit would be the 14 First; 64 Business; 265 Economy with Zone C (1/2 Business seats/half economy) sold as all economy.

Still ages to go till your flight, might be an idea though to keep an eye out on what plane is being used. Ending up on a B seat in economy may not be the greatest thing for a LAX-BNE!

It may be wishful thinking - but that 14F/64J/265Y aircraft is a pretty good explaination. Considering LAX-BNE doesn't normally offer F, and they are still not selling F for this flight, they'll most likely use these seats for J. Now they have 78 business seats and 265 Y - an extra 22 J but 91 less Y. They probably need to sell some of the J seats as Y.

The only other option is that it's a two class - which is pretty silly because that was the whole problem in the first place - row 26 was not available due to a change in aircraft.

Is it possible they have borrowed an aircraft from BA or someone else?

Fingers Crossed......

I called today to find out the answer (the suspense was killing me!)

She said my seat's the first row of ecconomy, on an isle seat.

Put 2 & 2 together - that means I'm in a buiness class seat being sold as ecconomy. Can't complain about that!
