I have been following with keen interest lately the threads about AA miles purchasing, and the recent bonus offers, and come to the conclusion it is worth investigating chasing AA miles.
However, I would still end up with a lot of QF points from CC EDR etc, so was wondering if it would be possible to do a YASA/JASA and post to a FF program other than QF, in this case AA?
I'm not looking at throwing my QF points away, but would likely do some JASA's domestically anyhow, so am simply wanting to boost a future AA balance where feasible.
I have looked at the AA earning tables and there is no U or X class, yet QF still recognises them as earning flights, so I don't know if AA would or not.

Has anyone tried this?

As U & X on QF are not listed on the AAdvantage earning table, it is likely they would not earn.

More here:

The cheapest ASA rewards (booked in X or U fare buckets) will not credit any miles to AA. But some of the more expensive ASA options may book into J, C, D, I (for business class) or qualifying economy fares and hence earn on AA. But for those redemption you will be looking at large numbers of QFF points.

We experience the reverse.I have upgraded on AA J-F using EVIPs.They have always booked into A which should earn F points and SCs with QFF.Mrsdrron always has her QFF number in and has at times got the F points and SCs.More often though she has received the booked J SCs and points.Surely then AA has notified QF some way that this was an upgrade but occasionally the system fails.
A xASA is an award which should not earn on AA even if booked into a bucket that normally earns on QF.So if you credit to AA there must be a risk you would get nothing so not worth it IMHO.

OK thanks for your words of wisdom so quickly everybody, so basically it appears to follow the standard earning rules - if the booked fare class isn't listed as an earning class on the relevant programs t&c's then there should be no expectation it will earn.

In theory, it shouldn't be an issue if you book an ASA into a revenue booking class, however I don't think there are any published statements from QF about the validity of such ASAs being credited to other OW programs.
AFAIK, an ASA is simply a way of using points as an alternative currency to book revenue fares.
Having said that you are right about such a risk.
I don't think anyone would want to waste points in finding out.

Just looking at some MEL-SYD YASAs and the cheapest fare that books into a revenue class is ~30k points all inclusive.
If you are a few segments or EQMs/EQPs short of AA requalification/qualification, then it may be not a bad idea to *convert* your QFF points however such fares don't tend to be too expensive anyway.
