Just planning a trip to tasmania for four people and the only available award is on JQ! Sadly we will have to accept this flight. Just wondering how I can make the trip more pleasant...

A couple of questions then. Given that the flight is SYD-HOB I assume that I can preallocate seats? Being QF SG can I pre-allocate exit seats? Would they block out a seat between two of us? Given that I am QF SG/AAplat and mrssimongr is AAplat - I am assuming that we can each take one guest into the QP? Is there priority check in/boarding for elites?

Finally as I am using points and trying to minimise the cash outlay (a treat for the parents) - I assume that I can work out the points required for taxes/surcharges on the QF website if I want to use points for taxes?

Cheers
S

P.s. I know I said I would never fly Deathstar but try getting on QF on a Friday evening out of SYD!

I believe that pre-allocation of exit seats is limited to those on jetflex fares; I would extremely doubt that they will block a seat for you; I would suggest going online and doing a seat assignment and select a window plus an aisle towards the rear of the plane and hope that noone chooses to take the middle seat. You will also be able to see whether the exit seats are available to you

Technically, I believe that there is not an entitlement to lounge access as an AA Platinum ( given that JQ is not an OW carrier ) but all reports I have read are that the lounges permit access as if it was a QF flight and so I would fully expect that you are afforded lounge access

Dave has answered much of your query, I'll just clarify a few matters.

You won't be able to pre-allocate any seats when booking; however you should be able to do this by 'phoning JetStar once the booking is confirmed (on 131 538 or +61 3 8341 4901).

When you do that, see if you can get your JetStar PNR Itinerary reference number. Armed with that you may be able to make further changes online using: Jetstar PNR Lookup

You can do a points payment of 6,500 per pax each way to avoid taxes making it a total 37,000 points return (rather then 24,000 points and $92.25).

Thanks both. I have just moved a bunch of points across to QF from Amex and diners. I a resigned to not having a trip on AA points for mrssimongr in 2007 due to bad schedules - so I can save my points there and build them up in 2007 - so the 100K points blown here is not such a big deal.

Hmm - I booked the trip last week and paid for the taxes on my Amex. ALl good so far. One small problem just cropped up. We just put an offer on a house which has been accepted and we plan to move in around when the trip was planned... so I need to cancel. Is the best way to call QF - I want to get the 100K points back (subject to penalties) and get the taxes++ reversed - I assume this wont be a problem (subject to some delays for refunds).

You will get your points refunded less 5000 per PAX and the $+++'s will be credited back to you AMEX, generally within 6 weeks.

Thanks - thats a bit of an ouch on the points but c'est la vie. Maybe if I call and explain the circumstances... maybe not :(
