For all the gurus out there, I’ll be needing your help for my trip that I will be taking later this year. But first, a little bit of information to help with answers.
November 28
QF149 SYD-LAX
AA2440 LAX-DFW
AA1001 DFW-IAH

December 19
AA1099 IAH-DFW
AA2421 DFW-LAX
QF150 LAX-SYD

All flights are on the same e-ticket
My first question /is with regards to my baggage allowance. Will my baggage allowance be 32kg through to IAH and back or will I have to follow the AA limit, which is a bit lower than QF? I have checked both the QF and AA sites, which has simply said to contact reservations. I’m thinking that I will get different answers.

My next question is with regards to a forced rebooking due to flight cancellations. As most of us know, Qantas will be reducing flights between SYD-LAX from 17 down 15 services per week, meaning 2 of the 3 QF149 flights will go. I purposely chose QF149 and QF150 as they were the extra services. My questions are as follows.
1. When should I expect to be notified of QF149/QF150 being cancelled?
2. Would it be possible/ what are the chances of me being able to defer the rebooking to a later date like October, and or change my date of departure?
If any more information is needed, just ask, and thanks for all help provided

When you check in with AA , you will be entitled to 2 pieces , each with a maximum weight of 50Lb ( approx 23Kg)

If, when you check in with QF, you get the bags tagged to IAH, then you will be able to check in 2 * 32Kg all the way to IAH. If you only get them tagged partway then you will be restricted to 2*50Lb at the point where you check them in with AA

If you wish to cancel, then you will be hit with cancellation penalties depending on the rules of your ticket

I'm thinking that QF should be able to check me in all the way through to IAH, having said that, i will have to collect my bags to clear customs and immigration at LAX. Despite being checked in (hopefully) through to IAH, i will have to drop my bags off again, whihc is where i am paranoid that i will get pinged.

As long as they are tagged to IAH then you are fine. Just drop them off on the carousel for connecting luggage after customs

Do be aware of the 50Lb (23Kg) limit when heading back though

Sorry for the silly question but what was the point of booking flights that you knew had a reasonable chance of being cancelled?

Compensation? Complimentary upgrade to higher class on new flights? Either of these possibilities occurring with QF is very remote.

I was fully paid and ticketed in late April/early May, before QF announced there changes. At the time i had no prior knowledge of the possible changes.

The only reason i went QF149 and QF150 was that, they are on days with extra SYD-LAX-SYD services, in the hope of these flights having a slightly lower lf, so as to spread out abit more.
