QF Bookings originating from NZ incur a higher CC surcharge

Kiwis would know this however when i tried to book an NZ to Aus flight (whilst in Aus) you still get the usual warnings about a CC surcharge with a link. The link goes to a page listing Aus surcharges. Confusing.

Later, it took a bit of effort on Google to get the correct NZ surcharge page.

The merchant service fee (MSF) has typically been higher in NZ. However, in 2021 the Commercice Commission started regulating the interchange fee, placing a cap on this similar to what has occured in Australia, UK, Europe, etc. They are having another crack at this in the coming months, with the draft proposal bringing that cap lower than any other country I believe, so that'll likely drop the MSF considerably.

Ultimately it is up to any merchant to choose if they want to surchange customers or not, but they are only allowed to surchange an amount no greater than the cost to recover that transaction fee. Whether surcharging remains legal is still up for debate. Consumer NZ has called for it to be banned altogether in the past week or so.

Easiest way is to manually edit the url : - au to nz. I do that frequently.
