Well... it was getting closer and closer to reassessment date (31MAY) and I need 50SC to retain SG.
Work are sending me off to PHE for a quick two day visit on 9JUN in J (which would have added an extra 120SC and tipped me over the line), but as you will read below, this was not enough to 'comp' me.
After reading a few stories on here about ringing QFF and asking if they would 'comp' retention of SG if you are a few SC short but have a trip that would tip you over the line just after the reassessment date, I thought I would try my luck and give them a buzz.
Agent was very good and tried his hardest but the higher-ups would not bend the rules - which I understand, but they really should take loyalty into account.
The agent noted I had flown quite a few times over the past year (24 on QF, a couple of international and lots of dom but almost all cheap seats but he didn't say this).
He then looked up a process on the computer and ran through the following check-list (and this is why I decided to post as I hadn't seen this before):
1. Flown at least 4 times on QF metal
2. Accrued status credits for QFF on over 20 flights
3. Next flight after status reassessment would achieve SG if was included in the previous year.
4. Next flight no more than 7 days after reassessment.
5. Hadn't been 'comped' SG in the previous year.
Check off 1, 2 & 3 for me, but my flight to PHE is 9 days after reassessment and I was comped SG because I had only dropped from WP the year before.
The agent was quite conciliatory . He said that I should get 'comped' and that he would speak to his manager and ring me back.
Sure enough, within the next half hour or so he rang me back but no success.
So, I just booked a quick triangle-dash east (PER-SYD-BNE-PER) on a sale fare the last weekend of May which is cheaper than QP membership for the next year!
Hope the checklist helps others out in the future!
