Selecting Melbourne to SGN (Ho Chi Minh) brings up code share with Vietnam Airlines via QF booking engine ... QF337 & QF359.
They have a QF flight number yet are on Vietnam Airlines metal.
Would be flying in J.
Would SC's be earned on these ?

I will presume yes as they have a QF flight number and are also in J (so don't need to worry about the fare bucket).

This seems to be an economical routing option to get to 'Nam whilst picking up SCs along the way as I never like to waste them.

And did Jetstar ever have a direct flight (SYD or MEL) into Vietnam with Starclass ?

Yes as it is a QF flight number you will earn points and SC's as if it were on QF metal.

Anything with a QF code is considered the same as it actually being a QF flight (you'll also get status bonus and access to the First Lounge if WP).

JQ have previously operated SYD-SGN using the A330, however this was dropped a while ago in favour of the DRW-SGN A320 with domestic connections.

And the power of AFF forum strikes again.
Many thanks for the responses.

I suspected it would earn SCs especially with a QF flight number.
I've read the trip report with Vietnam Airlines and since I always have low expectations, then this could be a real option.

For anyone interested, the other route I was looking at was vai Bangkok on Thai Airways. But I think the Vietnam Airlines seems ideal.

I flew syd - ho chi minh booked via the qantas.com site, status credits and FF points came through like a standard QF flight, I would assume it is the same for Business.

overall was a pretty good flight, good cabin service, in Y, not sure if J would be up to the same long haul standards but would be worth a try

have flown via darwin on JQ, was on an A320 so no starclass, I think it's still the same

VN airlines have improved their services significantly as they are now part of Skyteam (the 3rd alliance). A group of us flew with VN last April - some in J and some in cattle (I was one of those in cattle). Tickets were booked with VN (not QF) so I did not get any FF points or SC points. If you booked via QF website and had QF flight number, then you should get FF and SC points. However, I belive that the QF prices are likely to be higher than VN prices. I was pleasantly surprised at the services. They now use A330 (previously they used B777). From what I remembered the J seats did not look too bad. There were many channels on the entertainment in Y - current movie releases plus a lot of TV shows.

Years ago I flew StarClass with Jetstar when it first started direct services to HCM. They have canned that and there are no direct services between MEL or SYD to SGN. They have replaced them withe one Y class from DRW to SGN. Some people would do MEL to SIN with JQ on StarClass (when they first started up this route, there were good promos for StarClass), then Y from SIN to SGN.
