Currently evaluating options to get to JFK next May in F on points, and one option I quite like the look of is SYD-HKG on QF (A380) and then HKG-JFK on CX (777-300ER IIRC).

How do QFF price a mixed-carrier Oz-USA-via-Asia award like this?

The Qantas "Using Points" calculator (https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/PointsRedeemed) simply shows it as a separate SYD-HKG and HKG-JFK (90k + 152k =242k QFF points), but I'm not sure if this is correct given the only way to perform the calculation is to explicitly enter SYD-HKG and HKG-JFK into it. The other option is that it is priced as a "Partner Class Award" zone 10 redemption for 203k QFF points (as per Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Qantas & Partner Classic Awards - Points Tables).

I suspect it is the former but hoping it is the latter - can someone clarify please?

Why dont you ring QANTAS Platinum award booking desk - they will let you know how may points are required, with the obvious +2500 points if you book. Flying QF + CX will not be a problem. Mind you flying First Class even on points they may waive the extra 2500. It would be interestering to see their answer. I am flying around the world this month, J Class for 240,000 points and the booking desk were very helpful.

I'm going to do as you suggest, but when it comes to somewhat "outside of the square" questions like this I prefer to go into said conversation with some prior knowledge of what's possible / has been achieved before.

Just in case anyone stumbles across this thread in the future: I spoke to QF and the answer is as per the quote above, it's priced as two separate awards: SYD-HKG QF award and HKG-JFK partner award, for a total of 242k QFF points.

What about an FASA?
