Has anybody else been contacted by QF in regards to the QF - DO this Wednesday 16th?

DREAMLINER DOWNUNDER
To celebrate the 91[SUP]st[/SUP] birthday of Qantas, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is in Australia for the first time. We’d like to invite you to join Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce, Jetstar Group CEO Bruce Buchanan and Boeing 787 Vice President Mike Sinnett for a tour of the Dreamliner. Also see the reconfigured B747, and the next generation 737 with the Boeing Sky Interior.

Aircraft at the event:
  • B787 Dreamliner (walk-through permitted)
  • B747 (walk-through permitted)
  • B737 (walk-through permitted)
Looks like a great line up, that's for sure. l am pleased/excited/happy that QF have selected me (?). No doubt ABT (Australian Business Traveller) will be there taking a million pictures and writing an article on it.

I am 50/50 for attendance (l might be flying up to North QLD -work commitments which are still getting finalised). But in the unlikely event l don't, you can count me in!

So, who else got the call up?

I have absolutely no idea. If it is, please merge Mods.

I haven't really been on AFF for a month (work).

:oops::oops::oops::oops:

There will be a few hundred people there for this event.. QF offered it's staff an opportunity to view the aircraft with about 10 different sessions through out the dat. There were only a certain amount of tickets, but sold out very quickly.

Also 787 coming to MEL on the 17th.

I got a phone call this pm, and I accepted the invitation:p Early start at 0700.

I'm in MEL next week with a free day on 17th. Would be nice to get a look at the new bird.

Will it be a Tullamarine does anybody know, and what time?

For the staff sessions they are starting at 12noon until 1830.. And there is a session every 30min. And AFAIK they will be at the maintenance base.

For Sydney and Melbourne 'Boeing has allowed 1,200 employees from each port to view the aircraft'.

Anyone know what time it arrives from NZ? Would be great to be at the airport & watch, if I can't get to have a closer look. And what time is takeoff for Melbourne?

Strangely enough, on my AirNZ flight AKL LAX on the 31st Oct (my booked QF BNE SYD DFW was cancelled), my seatmate was an aeronautical engineer who worked for Boeing & was part of the Dreamliner test engineers team. He told some great stories about what they do to find how far they can push the planes..

Last year I got to join a private tour at Boeing going through their test model of this plane.

AusBT mention that it's expected in SYD from AKL about 11am tomorrow:

I'm hoping it lands on 16R so I can view the arrival from my office balcony :)

Hmm, am flying out of SYD on the 16th and out of MEL on the 17th...I'd better catch a glimpse of it!! :D

Great effort there by QF.
Big thumbs up!

Arrived with selection of nibbles (waiter service).
KPC basically started shooting non-stop - he's got a ton of pictures that'll be up soon.

787 on Display - still test plane with loads of equipment onboard
New QF 737 also in hanger - already in service
Old 747 - Refit 747 was in use. However, KPC and l did get some good pictures of coughpit and crew rest areas.

It was a good show put on by QF this am - thanks for the invite! Whilst there were nice breafast type nibbles, the main interest was the 787. Yes, I have a few pics:), some good and others well....When I get a chance, I will put a selection up for viewing. Also got a vey nice shot of Oneworldplus2 in the pilot's seat:lol:

KPC, after seeing (and hands on experience), l think that this plane will be the new bench mark in the aviation industry.

The technology that has gone into this is, well, just unreal. The carbon fibre shell, improved engines, electronic window shades, reduced noise, reduced cabin pressure, the list goes on.....

When interrogated, Captain Oneworldplus2 declined to comment on how many hours of flight training he had done:lol:
