Not really sure if this should be in the QF or EK section. Mods, feel free to move somewhere more appropriate.

I've never flown EK or really looked into the benefits for QFFs....until now.

Looks like I need to be in Dubai for work later this year. Living in PER EK makes the most sense as a QF WP. From what I can tell flying EK metal with either a QF or EK flight number I get priority check-in, lounge access, baggage and immigration. I presume priority boarding too.

What strikes me as absurd is when looking on QF to book, it looks like no seat selection is offered. Surely not? Do QF status pax not get any seat selection let alone priority seat selection?

Also, a little annoyed EK don't have Y+ on this sector so I'll be in the back of the bus and I presume not opportunity to upgrade.

Finally, I might tack on a trip from DBX to TLV on EK but a separate ticket. Assuming coming back DXB-PER is on a QF flight number, would EK check my bags through from TLV to PER given different tickets or would I need to collect and re-check in DXB?

Of course QF elites get access to better whY seating - but make sure your QF FF number is attached to the booking and select seats via EK MMB.

It will default you to about row 86, instead of about row 46 if not.

When are you going? We're out of PER to DXB on Sunday 22 October. Please choose another date. :p

As a WP you get priority etc and EK lounges and F lounges in DXB. if you book through QF on EK, paid or points, you always have to get the booking number then go to EK and do seat selection. Sometimes it’s possible to do this via QF but IOE it often doesn’t stick. I believe EK will through check your bags.

That's the table that has me concerned

You'll be a lowly gold then, won't you? ;) I'd fly that date just to see the look on your face seeing my smug face as I enter the F lounge and wave to you...

I’d pay to upgrade to escape the wine sods on their free whY trip and just luxuriate in the thoughts of the sots in steerage! :)

EK have always treated WP better than Qantas have, several upgrades on EK, zilch on Qantas. Haven't flown on EK for a few years so December will be interesting. Booked via Qantas but with QF codes, price not much different to booking direct on EK but the credits will renew WP until May 2025.

We were able to select seats using Qantas PNR directly on EK website. In J though.

Apparently, the upgrades for QFF went the way of the dodo a while back unfortunately. My first ever international comp upgrade to F was a QF Classic Reward (EK metal DXB-BCN)!

Yes, for about 18 months after the QF and EK partnership began, EK were deciding operational upgrades based on status. QF Elites were in the same mix as Skywards Elites.

It seems after that they changed the criteria to give fare basis (bucket code) priority over status, so those on flex fares tended to get the nod.

And that's entirely reasonable.

December is a paid seat so fingers crossed. But if not, we will still be very comfortable.

EK treats QF elites well - expect personal greeting onboard, ability to select preferred seats and the first lounge in DXB is excellent (can highly recommend sashimi plate)
