QF false advertising - J Child discounts

I thought the application of a childs fare would be based on the underlying fare. For a classic award sold as an ASA that would be no discount.

It applies to most ASAs, not just the cheap ones, regardless it's not specified in the rules which I think it should be.

I booked an Infant recently on an ASA fare, and the Infants price was calculated as the smae as a fulla dults price. Didn't make a difference and it wasn't a RED-E deal as the flight earned full economy status credits.

What i have been told is that the infant discount only applied if you buy the absolute full fare, not ANY discounted fare.

I have no children, but still support the original cause. Points are cash, or rather QF books huge sums of money against their FF program for redemptions.

QF needs to fix this up ...

I tried a few dates and routes, and the ASA's I looked at gave discounts similar to the cash price discounts. Can you provide an example of where this does not occur?

But a 33,000 point JASA will be based on a classic award would it not?

Is 47,000 via Sydney or something?

Not always, the availability of a classic award is irrelevant in the context of this discussion as its not referenced to the fare rules!

I can give an example of JASA ADL-SIN rtn departing around 1 Oct. 4+2 all charged at the same number of points, not in U class as there are only 3 of those available.

563,019 * 6 = 3,378,114, so there is some sort of discount in there for children.

Why, surely a child discount should be applicable on the basis of the fare rules, when in fact not all J fares are offering this.

This is purely speculative, but the slight difference in ASA points may be due to the reduced "taxes" that children pay. I know that when booking the family on (classic) award holidays it is always best to use points for the adults first and children last, because the points are the same but the kids get a 33% discount on the airfare. But I seem to remember the remaining charges for the award itineraries were different depending on whether the pax was an adult or child.


If true then the ASA points may be slightly less to acknowledge this, but there won't be much in it.
