QF flight numbers on AA metal two class - Biz or F

Hi

Just a quick one. Having a look at fares to Miami in January. Probably going to miss the sale fares though.

If booking a QF flight number in Biz SYD-USAentrypoint and a QF flight number USAentrypoint-Mia do you sit in F or whY USAentrypoint-MIA?

Similarly if I book the AA flight number does that change anything?

Probably going to end up looking at JL to NYC and a YUPP/KUPP to MIA in the end...

What fare bucket does it book into (or what's the fare basis)?

If you were booking on AA it'd be F. With the exception of Caribbean flights, all two class mainland USA flights are Coach and First (Coach and Business to the Caribbean, even if the a/c is configured the same).

They have some 3 class trans con flights mainly LAX/SFO-JFK which are Coach/Business/First.

I've never booked an AA QF codeshare on purpose. I believe you'd end up in an F seat, but serfty is probably more knowledgable on that.

YUPP/KUPP fares from JFK to MIA won't be particularly wonderful though. You'd do better to book a segment, say LAX-BGI or SJU (which go via MIA) and ditch the MIA-BGI/SJU leg. Just make sure you don't check luggage :) The return would be tougher of course, but you may find something out of nearby FLL or go for a drive to MCO.

Have you tried booking online? What fare classes do the individual segments book into? A? I? S? L?
 
It depends on the fare rules. Generally, if its a QF business class through-fare and there is no QF code share on the AA flight, then its books into the first class cabin (may be A or F depending on the fare). some fares require that you be booked into the QF codeshare and hence its booked as J or D but you travel in the F cabin (with J status credits earning and cabin bonus). Some AA fares seem to include coach seating (generally H or B class I think) and some use A in the F cabin.

Note that for FF redemptions, a QFF business class award seats you in AA coach, while an AAdvantage business class award seats you in the AA F cabin on 2-class services when connecting to an international service.
 
Ok thanks - I will keep an eye on fare buckets (or tell the TA to) - I wasn't sure if the same rules for revenue fares applied as for awards.

Need still to confirm that I am actually going to Miami as well ;)

Although with the distinct lack of (U) class seats on Qantas transpacific this isn't going to be a problem for 99.99% of people!

A quick check for November shows the QF codeshares on AA metal book into B class (economy) for "Business Sale" and C class (Business [=First Service on 2 class]) for "Business".

Of course, the "Sale" fare is ~$9,400, while the Business fare is ~$16,700.

I used to do this but my one change since becoming WP1 is to ensure that codeshare flights are booked on the QF number - this way the smaller number of SCs go towards hitting the 2700 QF target which is the one that I suspect I will struggle with.
 
FWIW, DCIR22's have a base of ~$9300 ;) - and one definitely travels in the pointy end for those.
