Hi Folks

Just wondering how often you've experienced / noticed the QF CSMs conducting personal greetings once PAX are seated.

From memory the few times I've travelled J it happened. However for several dozen dom Y sectors in recent years I can only recall seeing it happen twice. A week ago on a PER > SYD flight the CSM visited a handful of WPs and SGs (and OW equivalents) prior to pushback to welcome them aboard. The other occasion was on a flight where the CSM did a quick whip-around once the seatbelt sign was extinguished.

So how often does it happen ? I assume because it doesn't occur all the time it's purely at the CSMs discretion and subject him / her having the time and inclinaton to do so.

It's a nice touch when it does happen.

Only had it happen once on a domestic flight. Funny enough, I'd only become a WP for the first time about two days before that. The flight was lightly loaded, so that helped, I believe.

I have been greeted a couple of times whilst flying QF Y on international flights when a WP; more often than not when I'm flying QF international premium class (i.e. J and F), usually when taking the first drinks order and/or when giving out Express cards.

Never happened to me on 200+ domestic flights.

A few years back, it became QF policy for international flights, but then dropped off a few months later. Now it seems to be up to the individual CSM on each flight.

I have never had a "special welcome" on a domestic flight but I have had a few personal welcomes on international flights although not recently. The last personal welcome I had was on a HKG-PER flight back in September 2009.

FWIW on JQ international last month I had the CSMs on my 3 legs address me by name after boarding and keep me dangerously liquored up without prompting - i even got up and went to the loo and came out, bumped into the CSM (figuratively) in the galley and again she offers me another drink.

Good stuff.

It certainly isn't like CX.Was interested to note that there status really is important.Previously the introduction was "good morning dr and mrsron" when we were both AA plat. Now that I am outranked it was "good morning mrsdrron"and only after was I addressed.:)

Been a while since I last got a special welcome from a CSS or CSM (when in Economy) on Qantas.

IIRC, the last one was SYD-HKG about a year ago.

They also seem very slack with handing out Express Immigration cards as well - I thought these were still supposed to be handed out to Golds/Plats in Economy???

As far as I know they are handed to WPs in Y or Y+ but not SGs or lower unless you fly J or F (in which case they also get Express cards).

This is my guess and mirrors my (limited) experience.

As far as I can tell the Express cards are handed out with the yellow incoming immigration cards. So far in my experience they haven't missed me once. It does "help" that I'm often sitting near the front of the cabin.

Never had a greeting on a domestic flight.

I am generally flying in J (very occasionally F) internationally and it seems that everyone gets a greeting.

Never flown International as a WP so no experience there, however flying J domestically I find it depends on the crew.

If flying with Int crew always get a greeting after takeoff from CSM, if flight crew are domestic, greeting maybe 25% of the time and more likely on early morning flights before breakfats is served.

CX always seem to do this to OWE, service on QF is haphazard at best for normal things let alone the extra touches like this.

Last week I had a variety of different rules enforced, two 737 flights - one requiring notebooks in bags above or in non slip bags under the seat in front of you, one flight where electronic devices could only be used when at cruise as opposed to when the seat belt sign came off and one flight where we got a movie despite it being under 3 hours. Also got to experience the CNS QP in the evening with no hot food and very poor cold food choices for two hours from 5-7PM. Of the 6 flights I took, my name was mentioned at boarding twice, the rest of the time it was the standard " 2nd row on the left", flying during school holidays is always interesting.

Perhaps you are a likeable person. I cannot remember the last time I was handed an express arrivals card without asking for it and I am sitting at the front most of the time unless I was in an exit row.

Funny how people keep raving on about CX. On my recent trip I had a personal welcome on 1 out of 6 flights in business class. Different crew each time.

Maybe you're right, for...

...on my last SC run in Asia, I too had a different crew for every of the 9 flights I had with CX. Out of all of them, I got 8 out of 9 greetings. The greetings were extremely brief, mind you, a very quick "hello, my name is ..., call us if you need any help" done in pretty much 10-15 seconds. The missing one flight I didn't get a greeting was when I was flying HKG-SIN in Y. The rest of the 8 flights I was in J.

I was also greeted on my first CX flight last December, also in J.

CX certainly do a much better job at greeting elites especially cross-alliance. I am not sure whether this is done in Y cabins, however, let alone if you are a OWE or MP elite (e.g. MP Diamond). I think everyone in J (and supposedly F) gets a greeting, irrespective if you are an elite or not.

I am not sure being greeted by the CSM is something to rave about, noted yes, rave no. Consistency with service would be something to rave about however, again my experience over the last 15 years would place CX ahead of QF every year.

I had a PE flight on QF in May where we got personally welcomed and a nice conversation with CSM. Then constant greetings by name throughout the flight, the FA's remembered all PE passangers names without the need for a sheet, impressive!

Next sector was in QF J, however didn't get welcomed, only got greeted by name when FA asked what I would like for Dinner.

PE was a far better experience than J!

We had individaul welcomes too in Y+ in June (as did all Y+ pax). Asking if we'd flown Y+ before, told about flight time, meals etc and telling us the names of the two crew looking after Y+.

J was similar.

1 out of 15 domestic legs in past 9 months since becoming WP while seat in Y, and that was on a SYD-MEL flight not the longer SYD-PER ones.

Well on my first international flight on QF as an SG (which I achieved going there) was coming back from JFK in 2002. After boarding in JFK - in Y - we were greeted, supplied with Aussie newspapers and champagne and plied with so much scotch that by the time we landed in LAX ,we were well beyond just being tipsy .... It's been all downhill since then !

This year I've had SYD-CGK, CGK-SYD, MEL-SIN, SIN-MEL, SYD-SIN with QF. As a WP, was greeted on SYD-CGK by CSM who was helpful (newspapers, collecting meal early, extra drinks, offer of headphones). Super professional, when doing things like offering extra drinks, also made offer to the person sitting next to me which I thought was a terrific way of diffusing that feeling you get sometimes when you're being singled out and the person next to you is not. No greetings on any of the other flights, but was handed a express card (without greeting) on SIN-MEL sector last month.

Domestically have had a few greetings, but not expected or really that necessary.
