QF Inflight Service

Just took a PER-SYD flight.

Has anyone noticed that the QF flight attendents are smiling more??

Service has definitely improved. Has anyone noticed this or was I lucky?

It's a shame the plane seems to be falling to pieces. (767-300 with the mini 2 row Y cabin)

3 toilets out of service (Both business and one economy)

Boarding was stopped twice by engineering:
- First time, toilet issue.
- Second time, over head lockers needed to be sealed shut as they were broken.

Then on board, flight steward could not close a closet, door was broken.... so contents had to be emptied before take off.

I can't agree, chucksta. My last two flights, including a PER-SYD earlier this week, have seen a standard of service below what I'm used to - and expect - at Qantas.

Whilst i dont have any issues with the inflight service (on the whole) I agree the 767s have had it and the sooner they go, the better. I've been avoiding them on SYD-BNE-MEL flights as much as possible.

What has been described is a leased ex BA 767-336 ... a VH-ZX? aircraft.

BA leased six of these to Qantas getting close to 10 years ago. They would have been returned 2 years ago if not for the flow on issues caused by the A380 delays.

I believe these 6 will be among the first of the 767's planned to leave the Qantas fleet from later this year. IMHO, The sooner they go the better!

They are the only operational Qantas passenger aircraft with no directional air vents.

I love the airvents ! much better to have a choice.

The sooner they go the better but how do you assume they will leave later this year ? from new A330's and B737's replaceing them ?
Since no 787's in the near term.
(note: not doubting you at all just wondering how they will be replaced)

Yup!

The BA 767s are 767-336 aircraft, the best way to tell you are on an ex BA plane is when you look at the safety card.

I had a pleasant flight on a 767-338 aircraft over the weekend and prefer the 767 over the 737-800s, you just can't tell which version of 767 you are going to get when booking online. "I guess there might be a way"

How to tell a QF 767-336? It is if any of the following are true:

• Before Boarding:
  
  At OLCI/Quick Check:​
  • If rows 23 and 24 are in a mini cabin
  • If there is NO Row 25!
  • If the rear exit seats are in row 43
  At the Gate (Observe the Aircraft):​
  • If rego starts with VH-ZX
  • If doors L2 or R2 are just in front of the wing
  • If there's no Double doors over the wing
    .​
• After Boarding:
  
  .​
  • If there are no Directional Air Vents
  • If the Safety card indicates 767-336
  • If rows 23 and 24 are in a mini cabin
  • If there is NO Row 25!
  • If the rear exit seats are in row 43

Hopefully this will all become moot sometime in the near future ...

None of those help you when you're booking though, it's all too late once you've hit OLCI or arrived at the airport!

Are the BA 767s the ones in question at the moment with the QF safety scares??

Also there was an albino 747-300 parked at SYD airport. I wonder if this was an aircraft Qf retired??

I hope your concern here is not having control of airflow for your own benefit rather than causing mischief to fellow travellers.

No, not at all - for further reference search for my posts about what happened to me CNS with 2 hour on-board delay, stuck in a seat surrounded by a legion of PAX who must have jogged out to the airport/forgot to employ deodorant. :shock:

Sorry. I thought you may have wanted to use directional air vent as a weapon against recliners as mentioned in other similar threads. But then you have exit row most times you are not upgraded so no issue there anyway....

Does that actually work? I've never thought of doing that but it seems like a great idea. Nothing worse than someone reclining into your face on a 1 hour daytime flight. A steady stream of cold, dry air in the face would be a great deterrent.
