Hi all,

Just wondering if others had had the same experience recently?

Last 2 QF Jetconnect flights I've had (sitting in Y) I've had the CSM discreetly come up to me with a list and say 'Today we are serving our Platinum pax business class mains - would you like the X or the X'.... '

They then make their way down the cabin - (really WP's only live in rows 4-6 and exit rows normally!) and for the pax in the window seats they pass a written note across so to be discreet to the non status pax in the middle.

Then when the Y service commences you get the same tray / sides as them but with the J class main covered in foil on the hard ceramic plate. Very discreet.

I thought it was a one off (perhaps they accidentally loaded too many J meals) but I've had it twice in 2 days! I have another Jetconnect leg tomorrow so will see....

Interesting anyay - may well just be a coincidence, if it is - a very nice one and a great and easy way to recognise WP pax slumming it in Y! Or perhaps it is a trial of something bigger.... fingers crossed (but not getting too excited).

Interested to know if others have experienced the same??

EDIT: Will fire off some VERY positive feedback to QF!!

2 weeks ago travelled with Mrs Pyffii from Melbourne to Auckland in 4A and C with the middle blocked and for dinner received the Y offering only...Would have been nice if we had been offered the J meal but alas it was not to be !!!

An interesting change. Something I would like. (And tbh, the net cost to QF isn't that much!).

The real issue is keeping things discreet.

If you must send an e-mail de-identify the flights and dates. Someone could get in trouble despite your good intentions.

The problem with crew doing something nice is that passengers expect the same on the next flight. Not saying that this is you personally, but I have dealt with many situations where a passenger has had a crew member do something nice on a previous flight, then get upset (and sometimes angry) when I won't do the same. People also use this line to try and get their way, even if it didn't happen on a previous flight.

It would be a very awkward situation onboard if you pressed your call bell and said excuse me where is my business class meal today.

Yes, this has the potential to seriously irritate other Y pax.

Perhaps more practical if WPs can be all be seated in the first few rows of Y and only WPs are in those rows (in effect, creating a 'premium economy' zone); any who specifically choose to be further back would forfeit the J meals.

And of course, also the issue that QF need to keep clear differentiation between the J and Y products; after all, QF would prefer these pax to buy J tickets, rather than Y, and need to provide incentives for people to travel in the higher class.

Or not. If it’s unwritten it might not always happen, perhaps even rarely, but as a benefit 'when there’s extra or they load it on', it might actually serve to make those with less status aim to fly more and get that high status benefit :)

Did not happen last night out of AKL as we sat in row 4 ... then again; the economy meals were actually quite reasonable; I've had much worse up the front on other flights.

(FWIW, far better than AirNZ's recent offerings on the same route)

Great news the Shrek family ( 2 WP, 4 NB ) are seated in row 4 SYD-AKL rtn for the July school hols, wonder if I'll have to fight the little darlings for some Neil Perry cuisine ;)

I also wonder if it's the same CSM or different CSMs :) Could be a CSM specific policy!

A very nice gesture by CSM/QF, and very impressive with the efforts to keep things discreet.

Thinking back to my NB days before discovering AFFer, I think I would of been more curious than irrate, and though a bit jealous, would understand OK QF are looking after their loyal customers.

This reminds me of my experience on IBERIA short-haul Y. The crafts (A319/320/321) are configured with the first 8 or so rows with extra seat pitch around 34in. Depending on route, J cabin may take up between 2 or 8 of those special rows, and ajustable curtain marks the start of Y. In J middle seat is blocked.

However those remaining rows in Y can only be pre-selected by elites, including OW FFers. I think unless it is a full load, IB will keep those first few rows soley for the elite FFers. I was in the 2nd row of Y, had the entire row to myself, and the row in front of me was completely empty, and the rows right behind me were less than 1/3 full, whilst the back half of the plane seemed at leas 3/4 full. Fat chance getting any special inflight treatment from IB though! :(

This is a nice gesture for sure, but let's not get carried away.

Precedent and expectation are two different things and never the twain shall meet until better further notice.

Does this really matter?

This generally happens, but usually a WP will sit where they want.

Agree, but given these meals, I assume would be surplus, choice would not be available as it would if be a J pax, there would be minimal additional cost.

Qantas look after loyalty over class better than most airlines.

I've seen it happen just the once, but that wasn't for me and it has never happened to me... That person might have been a CL though...

Another Jetconnect flight but not a case of third time lucky I'm afraid!

Regardless was a great flight in the next gen 73H and the Y trans Tasman meals have improved alot of late so no dramas - and no I didn't ask for a J meal ;)

I thought it was a really nice on the spot way of recognizing loyalty so just content with that. Probably just lucked out having it twice in a row.
