Hi all,

Just trying to put together a list of current QF/JQ domestic flights that depart from international terminals to take advantage of the F lounges now available to me as WP. Not looking for any specific days of the week (or season), just to have the list handy so that I can give preference to these flights when they are available and my schedule allows. I've spend a bit of time scouring through FlightTrack Pro on my phone, and have managed to find the following:

QF8 BNE-SYD
QF19 SYD-BNE
QF20 BNE-SYD
QF81 SYD-ADL
QF82 ADL-SYD

JQ3 MEL-SYD
JQ29 SYD-MEL
JQ30 MEL-SYD
JQ35 SYD-MEL
JQ36 MEL-SYD
JQ38 SYD-MEL

Am I missing any? I've done a forum search, but any relevant topic is several years old and the thread is closed... I'm also not complaining that all of these flights involve Sydney - it's where I travel to the most (domestically anyway) :)

Only SYD and MEL have F Lounges of note.
True! :) Though I could also use some of the other 'international' flights to access the F lounges much earlier if I needed to travel with checked baggage (I'll have to look up the JQ35 thread to see just how to do it when flying QF8-JQ35 as an example) ;)

JQ19 SYD-OOL usually 2 or 3 times per week.
and JQ20 coming back the other way

Has anyone done any travel on CX domestic sectors eg CNS/BNE or ADL/MEL vv as part of a CX ticket to HKG?

Just wondering if there are airfares that permit such a stopover eg:

ADL CX MEL CX HKG CX ADL

BNE CX CNS CX HKG CX BNE

I have only ever taken he CX flights as a single journey BNE-CNS-HKG. It was a single flight number. I expect if available as a domestic flight, it's likely only as a stop over on a HKG trip.

What happens with immigration when you're departing SYD on these flights?

You present your boarding pass with the orange D sticker and photographic identification and you are waved through.

Thanks! I've always wondered about that.

Thanks to all for the replies! As an experiment I tried booking domestic legs with CX and their engine doesn't allow it (unless as a connection). :)

As an update, I've thought about doing the following to sample both lounges (and perhaps as a treat for the other half - in addition to keeping an eye out for the 'international' flights for normal travel):

On any Tuesday: QF8 BNE-SYD 06:30-08:10 / JQ35 SYD-MEL 15:00-16:30 (yes, a long transit, but being my first visit to the F lounge, I'm sure I can cope! :p)
(overnight in MEL)
Wednesday: JQ30 MEL-SYD 11:35-13:00 (and then any proper domestic flight back to BNE)

I could also switch the Wednesday MEL-SYD with JQ36 on Friday (09:00-10:25) if I wanted to stay in MEL a little longer.

Now for the questions! I have searched (and found a great amount of detail in the 'JQ35 Farewell Lunch' thread), but I just wanted to clarify a few things!

When we did QF8/JQ35 BNE/SYD/MEL in Jan, Customs in BNE stamped only the JQ35 boarding pass.

Considering JQ35 OLCI does not permit BP printing, were the two flights on the same QF PNR? If so, how did you manage that (I can never find JQ35 or a QF codeshare when booking through QF)? Otherwise, did you book 2x one-way tickets and have QF link them (can they even do that with JQ PNRs?), or were you just able to have the QF check-in agent in BNE issue both BPs and only attach the D sticker to the JQ35 BP (albeit on QF card stock)?

I've also found in the other threads what appears to be the protocol for getting JQ BPs early in SYD (if your journey is starting there or if you're arriving domestically) - OLCI, present the JQ reservation and OLCI confirmation and request a (domestic) QP agent to do a reprint, then head to the int'l QF F check-in area and ask for a D sticker before proceeding through to the F lounge. Firstly, does this method still work (asking as someone claimed in another thread that the QP can no longer issue JQ BPs)? And secondly, for my given example above ex-MEL, would this theoretically work in the MEL QP for JQ36 if we happened to arrive super-early?

Finally, I also just wanted to confirm that travelling with any checked luggage is a no-no in this scenario (eg. QF8-JQ35-JQ30-QF/DJ***) as you'd have to collect it after arriving from QF8 and would then be bound by the 3hr JQ check-in rules?

Yes my flights were on the same QF pnr as I used the multi city tool selecting QF/JQ Any Seat Award option on www.qantas.com to book a JASA fare BNE/SYD on QF8 then an economy redemption on JQ as QF don't offer JASA's on JQi flights as the J column says "N/A". I called JQ res & they told me there was nobody yet booked in J. It's a pity really as QF could earn some coin by allowing its frequent flyers to redeem their points for the JQi flights domestically. I think it's just a programming thing due to someone thinking there's no J class on domestic flights not realising about the domestic legs of JQi flights.

The SYD/MEL redemption was based on a starter fare which didn't earn points or credits so all up for BNE/SYD/MEL was 24,000 points plus AUD113.34 cash. I did the comparison between a starter fare & a max fare on the JQ35 however it was 24,000 points plus AUD357.34 which I thought was poor value for a measly 10SC & 1000 points earn. I think Anat0l did an award ticket as well however BundyBear just bought whY fares (not an award ticket) for those sectors via QF website.

We were our own checkin agents as when we did OLCI through QF website it issued both of our boarding passes so we simply arrived at the international terminal in BNE & proceeded through customs without so much as seeing a CSA. We already had some spare orange 'D' stickers so affixed these to our JQ35 boarding passes for the SYD/MEL boarding pass only. The 'D' sticker was not required on the QF8 boarding pass as we were not arriving in SYD & clearing customs so were just treated as a transit passenger the same as if you were doing QF8 to QF11 or any other int to int connection.

You can sometimes get a JQ person to reeprint your JQ35 boarding pass also as people who took a QF dom flight BNE/SYD went to JQ at BNE Dom who did the reprint. Some people had booked they JQ35 flight through QF website in conjunction with the QF dom flight but had been unable to get the JQ boarding pass when they did the OLCI. Others had a separate JQ pnr then attempted the OLCI via the JQ website & got the 'this is not a boarding pass' printout. JQ said "you're all showing as having checked in already". They were a bit hesitant about doing it as they didn't have the orange 'D' stickers however were okay about it when told by pax that they would obtain the 'D' stickers from the domestic transfer desk at T3 in SYD opposite gates 1 & 2.

Three of us did the QF8 to JQ35 scenario with carryon only however if you had checked luggage there is no reason why you couldn't check a bag through to MEL ie you would not need to reclaim it in SYD as it's really just like taking QF8 to JQ3. The only issue you may have is staff in BNE could get confused with your destination only being MEL & be relectant to check your bag through to JQ35 as they may consider your scenario as connecting to a JQ domestic flight where they don't interline baggage.

The system would generate a bag tag for both flights but the CSA may think it's a mistake & cancel the tag then issue a new one just short tagging it to SYD only. If this happened they would need to put an orange 'D' sticker on your QF8 boarding pass so in SYD you would need to clear customs as a domestic passenger, collect your bag off the carousel & exit the customs area then go back upstairs & check your bag in at JQ checkin which only opens 3 hours prior to departure. :(

I think it's safer to travel with carry on luggage only to reduce the likelihood of this happening.

Note that in the reverse direction for an international to domestic flight such as JQ36 to QF546 even though your bags would be tagged through to BNE you would need to pick them up off the carousel after clearing customs as a domestic pax in SYD then drop them off at the transfer desk at the international terminal prior to catching the QF shuttle bus from T1 to T3 for your domestic flight SYD/BNE. This is the same as if you'd arrived on an international flight from overseas eg doing QF12 to QF510.

I didn't realise that QF OLCI would print the JQ BP. Learn something new everyday.

I'll do JQ15 on Sun. Wished I was WP to use First lounge. Anyway...are meals, if any, included in fare?

Sleeping while flying on JQ is the best thing you can do...

Drink up in the QF lounge/s and fall asleep on JQ
