Kids - Fly - Free - International - Sale

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

Works well with the low LAX price. You could get a family of four return to America for no more than $2700

Excellent value for families.

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

It is looking good for travel to the USA this year. Virgin just made a big splash yesterday about always filling empty seats at any price so there should be more to come.

Am hoping to fly in September but no deals as yet available for that time of year. Wonder how long I'll have to wait. As part of a family of four I'm seriously tempted by this deal to go early!

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

Well I'm not impressed. The kids don't fly free if you select a Red-edeal, super or flexi saver fare.

As far as I can see the only T&C is that it must be return economy and adult and parent must travel in the same class.

Can anyway see aany other restrict against this deal being available for all economy fare classes?

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

Tried a few dates and routes and got 'free' child seats on red-e-deals (where free means pay pretty hefty taxes!)

Where/when are you looking?

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

There appears to be a 'bug' with certain destinations/sale fares where the adult+child fare = adult fare + <adult taxes/charges>
Others are adult+child = adult fare +<adult taxes/charges> + <child taxes/charges>

(I believe the correct behaviour for this sale is adult+child = adult fare + <adult taxes/charges> + <child taxes/charges> - ie the 2nd one above)

I'm sure Qantas will correct this soon, but interesting to note.

Also - the sale is marked as "Selected fares only", so I think that's why it's only valid on certain fares.

I was looking at ADL-FRA in May around 6 or 10 MAy, whichever is a Saturday and returning on the following Friday.

This probably explains it. I'll have another look. But I'm definitely getting adult + child fare = Adult fare + taxes + child fare + taxes

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

So if you don't have a child can you still make a booking and have two seats to yourself?

Could make a cheap whY fare almost bearable with a guaranteed vacant seat beside you.

You could but you'd still need to have pax details. Might be hard to check in without a matching passport.

Looks like only 'sale' fares are eligible...

I believe Qantas has their get-out clause by mentioning 'selected' flights.

Perhaps try Harvey World or Flight Centre or one of the other companies which are also spruiking this deal and see if they can do any better - or call the Qantas centre and ask.

BTW - the stupid Flash "advertisement" every time I visit the Qantas website really annoys me. The A380 one was bearable, but this one takes around 7 seconds for it to finish, while the "close" button is hidden away on the top right side over the FF area.

Very frustrating.

Played around a bit a bit more, and certainly looks like it is the sale fares that have been set up to come up with the right answer! Seems reasonable given it is called a sale. (Couldn't get my previous red-e-deal success to work)

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

Yep, I can't get anything to work. Should have read the terms better. I guess they picked the trade off between getting a higher fare price out of the adults or the risk of upgrading free children to J. BUt then I can't see that kids are going to put a great strain on the meal/drinks service in J.

oh well, the kids have school anyway. :(

Damn ... my youngest kid is 16 :(

Yeah, I hate that flash add as well - it blocks the rest of the screen (and the sale is of little use to me anyway). I do know the X Close is located just to the right of "login" above the detail inputs.

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

too many brokenhearted travellers these days :(

I had paid our ticket to Wtg from Sydney last year travelling end of March, and costed us approx 600 per person adult and children :(

anyway, before anyone jumped, I understand that this is just a bad luck in my part, because I will not complain should it happened the other way around :)

Re: Ex-NZ: Qantas - Children fly free sale

Yeah, I hate that flash add as well

*waves to the Qantas lurkers*

Today they've removed the flash advert (yay) and appeared to have fixed the 'bug' I mentioned above.

Can't say they don't listen to feedback :)

My interest was peaked at this sale. So I went to the site and it appears that kids/infants pay only taxes and surcharges.

So 2 adults plus 2 infants and 1 child prices out at $3446 all in for MEL-LAX return - pretty incredible....

So it seems infants and children are treated the same way. Clearly children get their own seat. What about infants? If they price out the same way why stops me from booking all 3 as children and getting 5 seats in total?

Has anyone else booked or inquired about these fares and such scenarios?

There is nothing to stop you booking infants as a child. But I thought the promo was one free child per adult and I would have guessed infants were treated as a child. If not your best bet would be to book 2 adults, 2 children and an infant.

Also check the break down on the fare you have to make sure they haven't charged for the third child.

Edit: remember the infant doesn't get a seat, so you have to decide if you'll be comfortabe 5 people into 4 seats.
