So more fun times for QF unfortunately. Today's QF21 MEL-DFW (and return QF22) cancelled.. but also the Wednesday 22/2 flight ALSO cancelled(and again, the 22). I was booked on the Wednesday flight so had been following. The reason given in the text is "Engineering Requirements."
While VIP Team couldn't exactly explain what this is about(and it's not for them to really know of course), I'm going to extrapolate a broken Dreamliner. I could be wrong, but I can't see why they'd cancel it otherwise. I feel Wednesday flight would have been fed by the DFW-MEL that was cancelled (as it has at times in the past on a Wednesday) which makes me assume this.
I was just thinking this morning, as I looked at the availability and seatmap that it was not massively fullly booked. Looked about 50-60% based on allocated seats - I know that may not mean terribly much, but most booking classes wide open, and well.. they could easily open a reward seat for me a week ago....
Not connecting the two in any way or suggesting that there is a link. I hadn't looked at the return flight loadings - there's potentially over 600 pax across at least 4 flights affected so it's not trivial.
Whatever the cause, this clearly affected hundreds of passengers at both ends. Full credit to QF for me at least - within about 45 mins I was rebooked in J on to SYD-DFW on the same day and while not an ideal seat, I'm still in J (and this was a reward seat they only opened for me last week!) so honestly I can't fault that. I am sure others did not do as well...
So, anyone else caught up in or have anything more on what might be going on?
